- Blatant Lies: When Grace and her mother Denice visit Benjamin, he tells them, with Judd knowingly looking on, that he’d went into diabetic shock from exercising too long, and stopped at the hotel to get a milkshake before he passed out.
- Could Say It, But...: During her domestic abuse call, Kristen disguises the details about her situation and address through a pizza order. Her ex-boyfriend Andrew, however, eventually figures it out when her order starts getting more detailed, and grabs her by the neck. Grace later uses a piece of unsolicited Christian advice both to try and get Andrew to stand down, and Kristen to signal when to escape.
- Embarrassing Tattoo: Narrowly averted with Mateo. When he shows off a “Guardian Angel” tattoo he received to TK and Paul, they notice right away that the “angel” was spelled as “angle”, but decide to spare his feelings. Later, before he can post it on his Instagram page, Marjan points out the spelling error, much to his shame. Fortunately, she gets the artists at his tattoo parlor to have it covered up with additional flames.
- Face Death with Dignity: When Owen and Tommy head to the driver’s side of the crashed car to check on Kara’s father Allen, they find that one of the support beams from the construction truck fatally impaled him through the chest. The man then works out that he’ll probably die after being extracted, so asks them to give Kara his blessing for her singing dream. Sure enough, Allen flatlines shortly after additional firefighters cut him free.
- Internal Reveal: Grace figures out what really happened with her father when she accesses the 9-1-1 call from the Clover Hotel; by the time Judd works up the nerve to tell her the truth, she’s already devastated.
- Man Bites Man: Kristen bites Andrew’s wrist to get out of his grasp before she jumps off the apartment balcony.
- Nervous Tics: Gwyn, while waiting anxiously for official obstetrician results with Owen, repeatedly taps her foot on the office room floor before checking on him.
- Plot-Inciting Infidelity: At the start of the episode, the 126 are called to the Clover Hotel by a distraught woman whose boyfriend collapsed on her in the middle of their having sex. When the paramedics turn the unconscious man around, Judd is shocked to find that it’s Grace’s father Benjamin.
- Shoot the Messenger: Judd defies this, deciding that Benjamin should admit his adultery himself.
- Surprise Car Crash: Kara and her father end up crashing into a construction truck whose brakes failed, while they argue about her choice not to attend college.
- Surprise Pregnancy: When visiting an obstetrician, Gwyn gets confirmation that she is pregnant, and is warned of the health risks that come with it to her and the baby. She and Owen, after taking a few days to absorb this, ultimately choose not to terminate her pregnancy.
