Recap / Nexo Knights S 2 E 5 Monster Chef

Go To

Celebrity chef Gobbleton Rambley has created a chili recipe so spicy, the Book of Monsters gains the idea to weaponize it. Knowing this, Clay has Axl and Chef Éclair compete in a cook-off with the grand prize being the one cookbook which contains Rambley's chili recipe. When Jestro sends Moltor and Lavaria undercover to compete in the same contest, Éclair has the Nexo Knights seek a pepper so spicy, it explodes if mishandled.

Meanwhile, Lance and Aaron hold their own contest to determine which of them is the most resistant to spicy peppers, but Merlok 2.0 doesn't like this idea. Despite Jestro's efforts, the Nexo Knights succeed in getting the pepper they need and use it to win the cook-off. Having been beaten the monsters attack.

Unfortunately, Axl's chili ends up being so spicy, it burns the grand prize to oblivion once it was spilled, preventing anyone from ever getting the recipe. Rambley doesn't mind that, however, deciding to move on and create the sweetest ice cream recipe ever. Lance and Aaron need to eat the final pepper in their contest, but Merlok takes it away and tries to "dispose" it. He accidentally drops it and the pepper explodes.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • An Aesop: Don't eat too much spicy food, it won't end well.
  • Blazing Inferno Hellfire Sauce:
    • The world's spiciest chili created by Rambley. How spicy is it? He apparently burned down 25 villages through the process of making it!
    • Lance and Aaron get into a contest of eating a series of spicy peppers, each one spicier than the previous one. Once they only have the Royal Crown Golden Pepper left and insist on finishing it despite having almost ended up mute earlier, Merlok finally puts a stop to it.
  • Cooking Duel: Axl and Chef Éclair compete in the Pepperton Chili cook-off against the monsters to try and win Rambley's cookbook.
  • Fauxreigner: At the cook-off, Moltor and Lavaria claim to have come from "Faroffia", and put on an Eastern European accent.
  • Karma Houdini: While Lance and Aaron get their tongues burnt during their spice-eating contest, which was treated as a wrong thing for them to do, Ava gets no comeuppance despite inciting them to do so (and making the contest more dangerous by introducing the Heat Unit Scale to them).
  • Mean Character, Nice Actor: In-universe, Rambley himself. When he's not burning down villages with his cooking, he is a pretty pleasant guy who never even raises his voice. Jury's on whether he's nice to children even in his "mean" persona, though.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Gobbleton Rambley is based on Gordon Ramsay, though of course he isn't even half as profane (if at all) as his inspiration.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: To win the chili recipe, Moltor and Lavaria enter the contest disguised as foreign cooks, "Moldronovich" and "Bob". Their disguise consists of nothing more than two pairs of fake mustache, but it's good enough to work.
