Recap / Nancy Drew E 14

Go To

Nancy and the Drew Crew follow the latest Lucy Sable murder lead, while simultaneously working to uncover the attempted murder of someone in their community. When both investigations lead back to the same person, Nancy and Nick confront the suspect with their findings.

Tropes:

  • Acceptable Breaks from Reality: If Nancy's phone were realistically covered in water from the rain, it would be unusable as a plot device.
  • Crime Reconstruction: To try and figure out where and how the poison got to Tiffany, they recreate the first episode step by step. They discover that the kitchen was empty for a very narrow window, meaning that the only opportunity to put poison in the food would have been after the salad had been made but before the entrees. If the salad was the vehicle, then the poison was meant for Ryan.
  • High-Voltage Death: When Nancy and Josh Dodd struggle in the shop, a wire comes loose, a bucket of water gets knocked over, and Josh gets tangled in a car hook. Holding on to the chain tangled in his jacket, he steadies himself on the metal ladder whose base is in the electrified water, providing a ground. His death is horrible and there's no discretion shot.
  • Hollywood Hacking: Downplayed, but Ace hacks Lucy's old emails (from 20 years ago) very quickly. He lampshades it by talking about how it's an old email from a canceled account (why does it still exist at all? Murder victim, maybe the cops insisted).
  • Jump Scare: Frickin' Patrice Dodd shows up out of nowhere to help at The Claw and scare the crap out of Nancy and Bess.
  • Oh, Crap!: Everyone realizes Ryan may have been the intended target instead of Tiffany.
  • Shout-Out: Bess says Nancy is "Beautiful Minding it in George's office".
  • String Theory: Nancy puts one of these together, only for Patrice to freak out about and for Lucy to follow suit... and clear the board except for the one clue that matters.
  • Thicker Than Water: Not for Lucy. She provides Nancy all of the clues she needs to learn that the killer wasn't targeting Tiffany, but Ryan. From there, Nancy gets more info from Ace's hacking and learns that the killer was Josh Dodd, avenging Lucy's death after 20 years.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: In-Universe. Sure, they found out who killed Tiffany and why, but where did a mechanic get a rare and difficult to make poison? Also, what the hell happened to his body?

One murder down, one to go.
