Tropes present in this episode include:

  • Ascended Extra: Gonzalez, the Gold Digger from Grandis' backstory, appears as the villain of this Filler arc. He wants the silver pillar the village holds as a holy relic.
  • All There in the Stinger: In the preview to episode 31, Nadia says she's afraid Jean will hate her if he finds out she's an alien. This is reason for Nadia's behavior in this and the next two episodes. Unfortunately, the previews were only aired on Japanese TV.
  • Cunning Linguist: Ayerton tries to pass himself off as one...until Grandis notices he only used the word "Jambo" while speaking to the natives.
  • Evil Colonialist: Gonzalez want the village's sacred relic (the silver pillar), and will flinch at nothing to get it.
  • Filler: The beginning of the Africa arc, which is viewed by some as being even worse than the Island episodes.
  • Hostage for MacGuffin: Gonzalez holds King and threatens him with death unless the villagers give him their sacred relic.
  • Hypocrite: Considering Nadia was worried about losing Jean to Electra and even embraced him lovingly after he came to rescue her, her sudden fascination with Hamahama feels very untrue to her character.
  • Landmark of Lore: Nadia is brought by Hamahama to a temple of a lion deity, where she reads the holder of the Blue Stone is fated to destroy the world.
