Go To

Parker discovers he's a victim of identity theft while investigating the unusual murder of a Navy ensign; Knight and Jimmy face hurdles in their relationship as their connection heightens.

Tropes:

  • Con Man: Todd Mercer, former partner of Joy's jailed ex-husband who recruited her son Ryan to be his replacement partner.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: Downplayed. Parker and Joy were childhood friends, but Joy's parents consider Parker to be such a bad influence on Joy that they forced her to move away from their hometown. This did not nothing to dissuade her and her current ex-husband is described as the latest in a long line of deadbeats and bad boys.
  • Deep Cover Agent: Ensign Ashley Watts and her "foster parents" turn out to be Russian sleeper agents planted within the United States years ago.
  • Has a Type: Lampshaded by Torres as he compares Parker's love life with his ex-wife Vivian and his childhood sweetheart Joy.
  • In Love with the Mark: Ryan Aaronson and Ashley Watts, a con man and sleeper agent respectively, end up being this to each other.
  • Irony: Joy's parents moved themselves and her as far away as possible from Parker believing him to be a bad influence; she was actually his Morality Pet and even after leaving his life, Joy was the inspiration for Parker to straighten himself out and become the man he is today while Joy never stopped dating bad boys well into adulthood.
  • The Lost Lenore: Breena continues to be this for Jimmy.
  • Love Hurts: A central theme in this episode:
    • Jimmy and Jess come to terms that her being a part of his daughter Victoria's life would symbolize Jimmy saying goodbye to his late wife Breena for good.
    • Ryan is heartbroken that the love of his life Ashley was a foreign spy murdered for falling in love with him.
    • Parker and Joy never got over each other ever since her parents forced them apart.
  • The Missus and the Ex: An offscreen example. At the episode's end, an amused Joy revealed to an embarrassed Parker that his ex-wife Vivian had visited her after their divorce to "meet the woman she was competing against her entire marriage".
  • Noodle Incident: Whatever Parker did as a teenage delinquent at the St. Paddy's Day celebration in Philadelphia convinced Joy's parents that Parker was such a bad influence on Joy that they forced her to move away.
  • The One That Got Away: Parker and Joy were this to each other since being forced to part ways as teenagers.
  • Properly Paranoid: Con Man Todd Mercer explained during interrogation that when Ryan once brought Ashley to the bar to play pool, he could tell that Ashley had an angle and was hiding something from Ryan. Sure enough, Parker and the team learn that Ashley was actually a Russian sleeper agent.
  • Tsundere: Joy Aaronson née Sullivan. Parker described her as "a force of nature". In fact, the first thing Joy does upon seeing Parker for the first time in many years is to punch him in the gut!
  • You Have Failed Me: Ashley was murdered by "foster parents" (handlers) for falling in love with Ryan and planning to reveal her secret.
