Recap / My Little Pony 'n Friends E34: "The Magic Coins 4"

Go To

At Fire Mountain, Megan uses up the second-to-last coin, which is stamped with a feather, to wish for herself and Wind Whistler to be light as feathers, allowing them to ride the thermals back to safety. Once they get back to Niblik, however, he turns out to already have a lot of giant rubies, and has little want for another. The troll is by now out of patience and chases the heroes from his house, leaving them to return defeated to Dream Valley.

At Paradise Estate, the others' attempts to keep the seaponies hydrated are failing rather badly. Baby Lofty tries to find some more water, but finds nothing and drops her carafe to boot. Out of sight, the glass shards ignite the dry grass and start a large fire. The ponies respond quickly, evacuating the nursery, digging firebreaks and having the pegasi dump dirt into the blaze, but it's not enough and the fire keeps spreading.

The away team returns at this point and finds a rather grim situation. As Megan contemplates the increasingly disastrous state of things, she's struck by inspiration and jumps onto Whizzer, and the two race off as fast as they can back to Niblik's house. There, Megan uses the last coin, which depicts a handshake, to wish for a friend for Niblik. The magic creates a British-accented troll with a thing for cleanliness, who promptly berates Niblik for his disgustingly messy house and starts cleaning it up. At first, Megan thinks that the magic is backfiring again, but Niblik is delighted by this development — he was lonelier than he cared to admit, and his house did need a lot of tidying up. He eagerly uses his magic to undo the other wishes, bringing rain back to Dream Valley just in time to extinguish the fire.

This episode contains examples of:

  • All for Nothing: Much with the other two treasures earlier, the perils Megan, Wind Whistler and Fizzy faced to retrieve the Heart of Fire turn out worthless — Niblik already has a chest full of identical gems, and has little need for yet another,
  • Gilligan Cut: After they retrieve the ruby, Megan confidently exclaims that she bets Niblik has never seen a treasure like this one. The scene then cuts to Niblik holding a large chest filled with identical gems.
  • Happy Rain: After Niblik undoes the wishes, a large thunderstorm gathers in Dream Valley's skies and lets loose, ending the drought and putting out the wildfire that was consuming it.
  • No Ontological Inertia: At this point in the storyarc, Ponyland has been reduced to a lifeless desert, but all it takes is a little rain for it to become green and full of plant life again right in the next scene, which can't take place that much later since Puck, Niblik and the other troll are still there.
  • Rain Dance: Cherries Jubilee and Spike use this to try to induce a downpour to stop the drought. It achieves absolutely nothing.
