Recap / My Little Pony 'n Friends E30: "Little Piece of Magic"

Go To

Baby Ribbon, Baby Tiddlywinks, Baby Half-Note and Baby Lofty are bored, and trying to figure out what to do. After Baby Half-Note's attempt to do ballet, they decide to play checkers, but there's the small problem of it being on top of a high shelf. Baby Lofty tries to fly up to get it, but as she's not a good flier yet she crashes into the wall. Baby Tiddlywinks gets Baby Ribbon to wink up to the shelf to get the game; Baby Ribbons winks out fine, but only half of her materializes once she gets there, leading to a fairly understandable spot of panic on her part. Ribbons and Buttons arrive at the nursery at this point, having heard the commotion, and Ribbons winks up to her daughter, helps materialize the rest of her, and then winks with her back down to the floor.

The older ponies suggest the younger ones try playing make-believe instead, and to prompt them take them to a hill outside and tell them that in a moment they'll toss down a ball that can be anything they want it to be. As the adults walk off to get it, the baby ponies take turns imagining what the ball will be like.

  • Baby Tiddlywinks imagines it turning into an anthropomorphic ball-person who teleports her to a series of rooms filled with toys, games and surprises.
  • Baby Lofty imagines it sprouting wings to act as her flying instructor, and then becoming such a good flier that she flies up to outer space and receives an award.
  • Baby Half-Note imagines herself putting on a ballet show, with the ball playing the piano to accompany her.
  • Baby Ribbon imagines the ball turning into a good-luck charm to help become better at winking, enough so to open a school to teach non-unicorns how to wink.

After the baby ponies are done imagining scenarios, they realize, to some surprise, that the ball never actually came and that they had a lot of fun regardless. The adults return at this point, congratulate them on having so much fun, and send them off to their naptime. Buttons is a bit confused as to what happened to the ball, as she was sure they actually sent it to the children, and when she and Ribbon go to look for it they find it still laying in a bush.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Batman Can Breathe in Space: At one point Baby Lofty and the ball fly up all the way in the outer space, where they can breathe normally — justified though, as this is just Baby Lofty's fantasy.
  • Breather Episode: In between the dark and high-stakes "The Return of Tambelon" and the upcoming near-destruction of Dream Valley through careless wishing is an episode about baby ponies playing make-believe.
  • Companion Cube: Baby ponies imagine the old toy ball coming to life and taking on different roles, even before it actually is sent down to them.
  • Everyone Laughs Ending: The episode ends with Ribbons and Buttons sharing a laugh about the various hijinks that just happened.
  • Imagine Spot: The bulk of the episode consists of the baby ponies imagining what kind of outlandish things they'd do with a toy that could turn into anything they wanted it to.
  • Teleporter Accident: Baby Ribbon isn't too good at winking, and when she tries to materialize after winking out only her top half returns into existence.
