Asshole Victim: Or rather, intended victim. Pendrick's assistant and editor is attempting to kill him. The first time he moves before she fires a carefully timed blind shot at the screening of his first film, and she accidentally kills someone in the audience. The second, a script change spares him from being accidentally shot after she sabotages a prop gun by loading it with live ammunition. His lead actor is wounded instead. The third would have succeeded had Murdoch not been present to save his life. Throughout the production of his film, Pendrick was harsh, demanding, refused to pay his cast and crew, and belittled them.
Jerkass: Pendrick and Edison both. Edison is abrasive and ruthless, to the point that Pendrick's assistant and editor was forced to give the three movies she made to him when it's discovered she used Edison's cameras to film them. It then nearly gets Pendrick murdered by his assistant because of his demanding and demeaning behavior towards his crew, and will ruin him financially once Edison effectively cuts him out of the American cinema market (Edison didn't exactly take it well when Pendrick arrogantly refuses to go into business with him in California).
Who Would Want to Watch Us?: Murdoch is less than impressed by the idea of film as a major form of entertainment, and ends the issue on this note directly. Just to add further to the joke, the episode ends by "winking out" as if someone switched off an old-fashioned CRT television.
