Freud would have a field day.

The episode begins with Clay coming home from his 'stinking dead end job'. Dinner is going to be late because Bloberta was knitting anti-egg protest signs for Orel. At the protest, Ms. Censordoll tries to convince Orel to give up, but Orel instead decides to go to the mayor himself to fight for an egg ban. He's shocked to find out that the mayor is none other than his father, and asks Clay to ban eggs. Clay at first refuses to do so, seeing how Ms. Censordoll had threatened to make the consequences dire should he do so, (and explains that sometimes people don't always say what they mean), but eventually agrees after he fantasizes about being an egg trying to rejoin his mother and realizes he has an Oedipus Complex.

Three months later, sometime around Easter, Orel is talking about his hunting injury to Mr. Figurelli when he runs into Ms. Censordoll, who learns about the shot leg. She declares that Clay was a hunter, and certainly not a nester, one who nurtures and cares for people. This, plus showing Orel some affection, makes Orel reconsider the ban on eggs, which Ms. Censordoll declares are 'life'. She walks away, telling Orel she would see him in the fall.

This fall, Clay is horrified to find out that someone is actually running against him for the mayorship of Moralton: Ms. Censordoll. What's worse, his own son Orel is Ms. Censordoll's campaign manager. And people seem to be warming up to her more than him, with her message of ousting the 'hunter-mayor' who shatters their life eggs. When Clay confronts Orel, who's passing out flyers, Orel brushes him off, saying that they'll meet in the study.

In the study, they are silent for a long time, until Orel tells him to get on with the punishment because he's very busy. Clay gets angry that Orel is helping a rival campaign against his job, to which Orel retorts that Clay doesn't even like his job. Clay asks if Orel even listened to his lessons: you're not supposed to like your job. Clay says that Orel can forget about being able to eat again if Clay loses his job because he won't be able to afford that. Orel just says that's okay before he leaves the room.

At the mayorial debate, Clay is questioned about his ban on eggs. As he tries to justify himself, he starts fantasizing about his mother again, which does not go unnoticed by Ms. Censordoll. She withdraws from the election, to everyone's shock and Orel's horror. Clay tries to apologize for shooting Orel, and confronts Orel about what she's trying to do, but Orel, who genuinely doesn't know, says as much, turning Clay's words about people not always saying what they mean on him. Clay admits those words are true, because one of the scariest things in the world is the truth. When Orel still says he doesn't know, Clay takes back his apology, says he's glad he shot Orel, and walks away.

In December, Clay is drinking with Coach Stopframe when Ms. Censordoll comes in, and Clay goes to confront her about withdrawing from the election. She begins to exploit his Oedipus complex to get her way, agreeing to let Clay sleep with her barren body (that would never produce a child) and mother him, as long as he does what she says. He starts to make out with her, while the two of them fondle a chicken egg.

Tropes present:

  • Not Afraid of You Anymore: Orel has lost any fear of his visits to Clay's study, being more annoyed he's wasting his time.

"And I'm glad I shot you."
  • Wham Shot: Ms. Censordoll envisioning Clay as a little boy crying for his mommy and realizing she can use this to her advantage.
