The secrets of the original Moon Girl are laid bare as Lunella faces her most dangerous villain yet.
Tropes:
- Asshole Victim: The head researcher, who tried to steal the portal device that Maris Morlak and Miriam invented and sell it to the military, was dragged through a portal by some tentacled horror.
- The Cameo: SHIELD agent Maria Hill shows up in this episode, helping Moon Girl to capture the first of the Enclave's agents and complimenting her skills as a hero and detective. She also regrets giving Moon Girl her contact info.
- Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Mimi willingly being taken to fix the portal device for Morlak and Lunella's lab getting blown up with Devil (seemingly) still inside and Lunella unable to save him.
- Darker and Edgier: The scene where the portal device is tested for the first time is easily one of the darkest scenes in the series thus far, with numerous people (including the lab director) being Killed Off for Real.
- Does This Remind You of Anything?: While it isn't outright stated, it's heavily implied that Maris and Mimi were denied credit for their work because of their race.
- Double-Meaning Title: The "original Moon Girl" is referred to as OMG, which is also a very appropriate reaction to the big reveals of this episode.
- Everybody Knew Already: Mimi seems to have always known that Lunella is Moon Girl, mainly due to understanding that Devil Dinosaur is from another dimension thanks to the portal device Lunella made from her and her old partner's schematics. Unfortunately, Morlak figured this out as well.
- "Eureka!" Moment: During their capture, Mimi states that the handcuffs used on her and Lunella are thermal locked, so they are activated with their body heat. Lunella immediately makes use of a van's cooling system to help unlock the cuffs.
- Hurricane of Puns: With the Enclave on the scene, bee puns abound.
- I Just Want to Be Special: Maris Morlak's motivation. He just wanted credit for the portal device he and Miriam invented. Unfortunately, Miriam sees how corrupt her old partner is becoming and destroys it during her escape.
- Jaw Drop: After Mimi is revealed to be the original Moon Girl, Devil's jaw is almost to the floor for a long period of time.
- Murder by Inaction: As the head researcher is grabbed by a monster in the portal, he grabs on to Morlak's coat and begs him for help. Morlak just stands there saying and doing nothing as the poor man is dragged to his doom.
- Mythology Gag: In the second flashback, Mimi mentions that she and Morlak had come a long way from Professor Kirby’s class - a reference to Jack Kirby, the creator of Devil Dinosaur and a number of other Marvel characters.
- Never Mess with Granny: Mimi, full stop. Don't mess with her inventions, don't mess with her home, and don't EVER come between her and her babies. Also, despite Lunella thinking that she'd kept her hero life a secret from her family, Mimi reveals that she's known since day one.
- Pungeon Master: Moon Girl makes a whole lot of bee puns after discovering the Enclave's honeycomb logo. Agent Hill gets in on it, too.
- The Reveal: Lunella discovers that her grandmother Mimi is the Original Moon Girl.
- Trash the Set: The Enclave sets a bomb that destroys Lunella’s lab with Devil still inside. Or so it seems.
- Wham Episode: It's revealed that Mimi was the original Moon Girl and created the portal that brought Devil to the present day.
- Wham Shot: Lunella attacks a hidden figure messing with the portal device in her lab… and it’s revealed to be Mimi.
