Recap / Monster Rancher S3 E25: The Final Battle

Go To

Holly's father has returned, but has no memory of anything, including his daughter. Given the atrocities he committed as Moo, Suezo wonders if maybe him losing his memory is a good thing, but Genki is adamant that he should remember. Suddenly, Durahan's gang attacks the Searchers and steals the Mystery Disk containing Moo!

The Searchers give chase and are able to interrupt the unlocking ritual, but it's too late. Moo's evil soul awakens and promptly absorbs Durahan and his gang to create a new body as a Ruby Knight! Moo is invincible to everything the Searchers try, and when he nearly kills Holly's father, the shock of the experience brings back his memories. Concentrating hard, the Searchers realize the only way to defeat Moo is from within.

The group travels inside Moo's soul, where they see the baddies being consumed and screaming for help—especially Durahan. Though they don't possess the Phoenix's body anymore, since they're inside Moo's soul, the Phoenix could be summoned here too—without the risk of losing the Monsters that make it up. The Phoenix is summoned through fusion and does battle with Moo, wearing him down gradually.

But Moo attempts to possess the Phoenix as he nears defeat! Pulling free from his soul, Durahan and his gang join their thoughts with Genki, Holly, and her father, giving the Phoenix the last boost it needs to destroy Moo once and for all. They arrive back in the Monster Rancher world and watch as every baddie emblem disappears. Durahan and his gang become good Monsters, and the group greets the rising sun with hope. Even if Moo did try to come back one day, as long as they kept courage in their hearts, it would never happen.

This episode contains examples of:

  • As Long as There Is Evil: Despite Moo's soul being destroyed, Holly's father believes that, since Moo feeds on hatred and evil, he might be back some day if there's enough hatred in the world.
  • Deader than Dead: While the previous season finale ended up with the destruction of Moo's body, here his soul follows the same fate, ensuring that Moo is gone for good.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: The last trace of Moo is destroyed for good, and with it his last remaining influence on the world, and, after so long, Holly is finally reunited with her long lost father.
  • Grand Finale: For Season 3, and the series as a whole.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Durahan and his minions join the Searchers in the final battle against Moo's soul. Once the battle is won, they decided to turn their back to their former evil ways for good.
  • Imperfect Ritual: Durahan's attempted fusion with Moo's soul is crashed by the Searchers' attack on the Shrine, which causes some damage to it, resulting in a malfunction, and Durahan and his minions being merged together with Moo's soul, forming the Ruby Knight, with Moo being the one in control instead of Durahan. It's unknown if, had the fusion gone as intended, Durahan would have been the one in control or not.
  • Last Episode, New Character: Ruby Knight, a monster created from a Fusion Dance of Durahan's gang as a body for Moo's evil soul.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: Poison, Mum Mew, and Gobi finally pay the Searchers back for defeat after defeat, successfully stealing the Mystery Disk.
  • Redemption Earns Life: Durahan and his gang help the Searchers and avoid being consumed by Moo's evil soul. Even better, Durahan and Weed regain their full bodies.
  • World-Healing Wave: After the last piece of Moo's soul is destroyed, it results in a magic wave that removes all the Baddie's crests from the remaining monsters that still had them (presumably, purging them of Moo's evil influence), as well as restoring the landscape.
