"When the Doorman is Your Main Man"
"Everything is possible."
Maggie Mitchell (Cristin Milioti) is a young book editor whose unflappable apartment doorman Guzmin (Laurentiu Possa) unfailingly critiques the men she brings home. When Maggie gets pregnant, Guzmin serves as a source of support.
Tropes in this episode:
- Adaptational Name Change: The doorman's name is Guzim in the original essay, but Guzmin here.
- Glorified Sperm Donor: Downplayed in that he is somewhat involved in the preparation, but Ted wants very little to do with Maggie's pregnancy after she tells him about it.
- Law of Inverse Fertility: Maggie gets pregnant from a brief fling.
- Parental Substitute: Guzmin evidently becomes something of a paternal figure to Maggie.
- Panicky Expectant Father: Alluded to by the doctor who helps Maggie give birth, saying they get a lot of "fainter" fathers.
- Time-Passes Montage: Used to age Maggie's daughter Sarah from a newborn to a toddler.
- Time Skip: The epilogue is set five years later.
