Max and his mom visit Turkey, and while there a street vendor accuses Max of stealing the cap from him. When Norman attacks the police to protect Max the two get thrown in jail, and find secret catacombs where a half-human torturer's been feeding people to a giant living eyeball.
Tropes:
- Early Installment Character-Design Difference: This is the only episode where Virgil wears his hood up the entire time, and for little apparent reason. Maybe they were experimenting with his look.
- Hellhole Prison: If this episode is to be believed Max's world's version of Turkey clearly doesn't follow the Geneva Convention rules.
- Kill It with Fire: Max destroys the eye by igniting a bottle of bug repellent and throwing it into the pupil, igniting the entire cavern system. Ultimately how the torturer is also seen off.
- Noodle Incident: Max's mom already knows about Virgil and Norman and is on (mostly) good terms with them, although we never do find out how.
- "Shaggy Dog" Story: Norman complains constantly about how easily he'd be handling everything if he still had his sword. He gets it back just as the torturer comes at them for another go after they get back to the surface. Instead of using it to kill their enemy on-screen, Norman instead grabs the guy and throws him into the fiery caverns underneath in an apparently more network-acceptable fashion.
- Shout-Out: To The Odyssey. Max talks to one of the prison guards who implies the torturer is one of Odysseus's men who was left behind and served the cyclops in exchange for his life.
