Max is tormented by knowing Skullmaster's undead legions will keep coming after him to get the cap, prompting Virgil to suggest they form an old-fashioned band of heroes and take the fight to Skullmaster instead.

- Killed Off for Real: Mighty Max shows how shockingly grim it's willing to be for a 90's kids cartoon again, where the guest heroes who help Max's usual posse stay behind to die at Skullmaster's hands at the end of the episode.
- Last Stand: The guest heroes make one when they're stuck in Skull Mountain at the end.
- Retired Badass: All the heroes are pretty far past their glory days, and Max is well and truly unimpressed with what he initially sees. They acquit themselves like the legendary badasses they are when fighting Skullmaster's army, though.
- Series Continuity Error: Beowulf implicitly rips off Warmonger's arm offscreen ("Let me show you a trick I once used on a guy named Grendel!"), but he's completely whole in later episodes. Maybe they weren't expecting to get renewed when this episode was being made.
