Recap / Mickey Mouse S 5 E 9 My Little Garden

Go To

"My Little Garden" is the 9th episode of Season 5 of the new Mickey Mouse (2013) series created by Paul Rudish for the Disney Channel and Disney.com. It is the 87th in the series.

Mickey decides to trim his garden when he finds that it's grown into a dangerous jungle.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Badass: Pluto in "Mickey's Garden" gets repeatedly tossed around by the giant bugs, ultimately getting eaten in the process. In My Little Garden, Pluto has been surviving against the garden and its monstrous denizens for TWO AND A HALF YEARS without suffering any visible injuries.
  • Adaptational Ugliness: In "Mickey's Garden", the bugs, while creepy, have cartoonish designs. This is not the same case here where they are portrayed more monstrous looking.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Giant bugs inhabit Mickey's garden.
  • Description Cut: When Mickey ventures out in his jungle of a garden to find his gardening tools.
Mickey: I'll have you all cleaned up in a jiffy.
(cut to a card reading "87 Days Later...")
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: Mickey has this when he reunites with Pluto.
Mickey: No wonder I haven't seen you around the house, you've been out here in the yard....for several months apparently.
  • Losing a Shoe in the Struggle: After months of trekking through the garden, Mickey only has one shoe.
  • Man-Eating Plant: Such a plant eats a giant bug, and later tries to eat Mickey before getting squished by the "creature".
  • Mythology Gag: The plot is similar to the classic cartoon "Mickey's Garden". Both feature Mickey and Pluto getting lost in an overgrown garden with giant insects.
  • Red Filter of Doom: Happens when Mickey is being chased by the "creature".
  • Vertigo Effect: This happens when Mickey sees the "creature" watching him.
  • We Are Not Going Through That Again: At the end, Mickey and Pluto call a gardener to deal with the mess rather than going through that ordeal again.
  • Your Mind Makes It Real: After spending months in his garden, Mickey becomes insane and disheveled, plus the garden is inhabited by giant bugs, man-eating plants and a monstrous creature. But after the "creature" is revealed to be Pluto, the garden is suddenly harmless and Mickey is all clean.
