"Ku'u Lei Melody" is the sixteenth season 3 short of the new Mickey Mouse (2013) series created by Paul Rudish for the Disney Channel and Disney.com. It's the 53rd to air on the Disney Channel and put up on Disney.com.
It aired on April 22, 2016. In this cartoon, Mickey, Donald and Goofy are in Hawaii where Mickey is trying to compose a melody, but gets inspiration from an island spirit.
Tropes:
- Big "WHY?!": From Mickey, humorously followed by "kiki", for "Waikiki".
- Butt-Monkey: Instead of Mickey, Donald and Goofy are actually given a bit more of a beating this time around during Mickey's pursuit of the spirit.
- Extra-Long Episode: The third of four seven minute episodes on the series so far.
- Gesundheit: Said by one of the tiki faces to Donald after he says, "Akua!"
- Irony: The first of Mickey's friends who tells him to "mellow out" at the start is Donald Duck.
- Rearrange the Song: The end credits theme is played on ukulele.
- Shout-Out:
- There is a major one halfway through the cartoon to The Enchanted Tiki Room's tiki faces.
- On top of that, the Akua is introduced controlling the waves in a manner similar to another Mickey Mouse cartoon centered around music.
