Recap / Miami Vice S 1 E 19 Made For Each Other

Go To

Crockett and Tubbs are undercover at a counterfeiter's workshop when they are recognized as cops. The counterfeiter, Artie Cross, proceeds to use gasoline to try to burn up all of the evidence. Zito, in an attempt at heroism, goes into the burning building and almost dies retrieving a bundle of the counterfeit money.

The episode switches to Zito and Switek being the protagonists as they investigate a fence, "Bonzo" Barry Gold, while dealing with the fact that Switek is now dating Zito's ex. Noogie and Izzy soon become involved in the scheme as they are used as undercover operatives. Things just get weirder from there.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • A Day in the Limelight: One of the few episodes to barely have any Crockett or Tubbs in them.
  • Black Comedy: Zito survives a horrifying fire, only to have his house burn down while he's not at home.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Switek and Zito can't infiltrate Bonzo's organization because his Ms. Fanservice model was busted by them for prostitution and recognizes them as cops. So they turn to Izzy and Noogie.
  • Denser and Wackier: This is one of the rare comedy episodes of Miami Vice. The criminals, police, and events are a lot more flamboyant as well as bizarre.
  • Fashion-Victim Villain: In-universe. Bonzo Barry Gold wears a space suit with a cape during his TV commercials. Switek and Zito just stare at it for the duration.
  • Gold Digger: Darlene is implied to be this as she encourages both Switek and Zito during her relationships with them to enter politics as well as seek promotions.
  • Harmless Villain: "Bonzo" Barry Gold is a fence and non-violent. His boss, Costellada, is certainly not.
  • Henpecked Husband: Darlene reduced both of her cop boyfriends into this.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: Zito and Switek prove to be this throughout the episode, their friendship even more important than their relationship with Darlene.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Costellada is a powerful drug lord who also holds Bonzo's strings.
  • Saying Too Much: Switek and Zito say that Noogie and Izzy are cops during their bust of Bonzo. This results in them all getting into very deep trouble with Costellada.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Bonzo thinks stealing a cement truck is ridiculous (which Izzy and Noogie plan to do) but his boss thinks it's awesome.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Castillo is less than comfortable with Switek and Zito recruiting Izzy and Noogie. So he puts the kibosh on their investigation.
