Recap / Martin Mystery S 2 E 32 You Do Voodoo

Go To

After an incident at the school library, Martin claims Diana is a "goody two-shoes". So, she drastically changes her image in order to prove that she can be a bad girl when she wants. At the Center, M.O.M. tells them that there was a bizarre attack on the mayor of Stillwater, Louisiana by an invisible force and sends them to investigate. After a few more weird events they discover that a corrupt politician is using Voodoo Dolls to eliminate his competition. He intends to win the mayoral race, and end up in the mayor's office, an office that was built to conceal an evil Shaman's lair. Once he harnesses the power of an Ancient Artifact hidden below he will become an unstoppable voodoo priest!

General Tropes:

  • Bald of Evil: Montgomery Stokes is completely bald and a voodoo shaman set out to use his ancestor's talisman to make the town of Stillwater suffer.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Martin wants Diana to take it easy of being a goody two-shoes. What he didn't expect is for her to become a bad girl, which is something he will regret in the end.
  • Book Ends: Martin proves to Diana that she is a goody two-shoes by placing a book on the wrong shelf, prompting her to correct it. He still succeeded in the end by using a blank piece of paper to make her think she made errors in the "case report", showing that she is still a goody two-shoes despite her bad girl image.
  • Evil Sorcerer: Montgomery Stokes is a voodoo shaman and a Corrupt Politician.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Martin manages to use Stokes' own voodoo doll against him by making it similar to Stokes.
  • Logical Weakness: As Diana deduces, the voodoo dolls work due to the similarities of whom they're based on, and if you change your appearance, it no longer has power over you. Diana achieves it by removing her wig, glasses and trench coat.
  • Ominous Latin Chanting: More like Ominous Voodoo Chanting, which indicates the presence of a voodoo shaman.
  • People Puppets: The voodoo dolls are used for this, with the added bonus of experiencing hallucinations.
  • Rule of Symbolism: When Martin makes her think that she made errors in the "case report", Diana comes running to the blank paper while automatically removing her wig, glasses, and trenchcoat. This is the moment she agrees to drop the bad girl image.
  • Tempting Fate: Diana tells Martin, who is reduced to begging at that point, that she will stick to the bad girl image from here on out after the corrupt mayor has been dealt with in the end. One second later, Martin uses a blank paper to make her think that she made errors in the "case report", provoking her to try to correct it.
