"Next time, I'mma keep my mouth shut, and I'mma do what the fuck I'm told to do, because I'm hungry! And whatever the fuck we told to do, we gon' do it! If that nigga tell me to walk butt-booty naked, I'm walkin' butt-booty naked in the middle of Times Square for the camera, skraight up."
Freddy P.

For their latest exercise, the band is forced to read from Russell Simmons' memoir, Life and Def: Sex, Drugs, Money, + God outside of Diddy's studio. When it comes time for Chopper to read, Fred starts to laugh, which causes Chopper to get very defensive and yells at him. In turn, when Fred has to read, Chopper starts to laugh at him. Fred tells him if he has a problem, they can settle it, which leads to an argument that almost becomes physical. The other group members and Bad Boy staff step in to settle the conflict when Fred and Chopper threaten to get into different taxis and leave the group. Diddy comes outside to investigate, calling out the immature behavior of both men, and brings in the whole band to give them a reality check concerning their behavior as of late. The next day, Diddy has the group go to a car wash and volunteer for the whole day. Dylan in true Dylan fashion objects to it, but submits when Ness insists that everyone has to do it. Eventually, he and everyone warms up to it, having fun and even receiving some tips. Diddy comes back around and calls them out for this, reminding them that they're supposed to be working hard to prove their worth and not treating it like a joke. When the band gets back to the hotel, they discuss just abandoning Bad Boy and the whole initiation process and applying to other labels, though Babs admits that she doesn't see them working on any other besides Bad Boy. Freddy reminds them that they can't just secure another deal out of thin air, to which Babs chimes in that they don't even have music or any sort of demo to put on their resume. Freddy decides that the next time he's told to do something, he will do it without question, as he is desperate to become successful and better his situation. Diddy then sends the group to a homeless shelter, to teach them to have gratitude for the things they have compared to those less fortunate. Sure enough, it touches the hearts of the group members, with Ness being reminded of his own time being homeless and Sara being driven to tears. Later, the group is brought back to Diddy's studio, where he asks if anyone knows "Rapper's Delight". Chopper has a passing knowledge and Babs knows a bit more of the lyrics but nobody knows it all from the heart. Diddy tasks them with reciting it along with Biggie's first single, "Juicy", which pretty much everyone knows.. except Sara. Now, the band has to memorize both songs and teach Sara personally. The group gets frustrated with the predicament, with Chopper and Sara nearly getting into conflict, and spend a good amount of time outside memorizing and reciting. The next morning, the band finally does their performance for Diddy, to which he reminds them that he made them do this to make them appreciate hip-hop as an art form and black history rather than an easy come-up. Sara in turn feels closer to the genre and her group mates. Later, Diddy has them driven somewhere, making them nervous that they'll be put through another grueling task. It turns out he is finally welcoming them into the house; a huge, luxurious home full of musical equipment, a studio, art commissioned of the group, even some pictures of their families to make them feel more at-home. Diddy just warns them not to touch his personal room. He then grants the group the day off, and tells us, the viewers to stay tuned, as he isn't entirely sure if this group will stay together moving forward..

  • Disproportionate Retribution: Fred and Chopper actually nearly come to blows over reading. To be fair, as Ness points out, tension was already building over the tiring circumstances.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After many tiresome, humiliating exercises, the episode concludes with the band being accepted into Diddy's home with the day off.
  • Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure: Chopper and Babs don't know much of "Rapper's Delight" outside of a few lines, and Sara is pretty much clueless to anything hip-hop.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After the dispute with Diddy at the car wash, the band toys with the idea of just ditching Bad Boy for another label. Fred points out that they can't just get a new deal out of nowhere.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Discussed by Fred and Babs, who point out respectively that they can't just get a new deal randomly, and that they don't have any sort of resume to prove themselves anyway.
