Recap / Lucifer (2016) S02E11 "Stewardess Interruptus"

Go To

Just as it seems like Lucifer and Chloe are finally about to admit their feelings for one another, they're interrupted by the sudden arrival of Jana Lawrence, still decked out in her airline stewardess uniform. With Chloe misreading the situation despite Lucifer's protests and leaving, the two of them hit a roadblock in the personal side of their relationship.

And then Jana and other former lovers of Lucifer's start turning up dead.

Tropes present in this episode include:

  • Affectionate Parody: Suki's fascination with Lucifer far more resembles an obsessive fan of a TV show character than an actual stalker, considering that she's shown to be weird but utterly harmless and possibly not even particularly romantically interested in the target of her obsession, more focused on who he's paired with.
  • The Big Damn Kiss: After Lucifer tells Chloe that he believes he's unworthy of her, she finally kisses him.
  • But Not Too Bi: This episode establishes that Lucifer does not limit his sexual partners to women, although they still seem to be his preference.
  • Cassandra Truth: Chloe still refuses to believe that Lucifer hasn't slept with Charlotte Richards, even though the same episode establishes that Chloe knows that, if there's one thing Lucifer isn't, it's a liar.
  • Comically Missing the Point:
    • One of Lucifer's lovers gets a message telling her to "Ditch the loser from Lux". Lucifer thinks she must have been seeing someone else at the club.
    • While eating her lunch, Linda tells Maze that she knows what it's like to be unappreciated, like when a friend uses her lunch break for free therapy and doesn't say thank you. Maze offers to "take care" of this friend for her.
  • Comic Sutra: Lucifer's "moves" as described by his exes who all claim their time with him was "the best night of my life".
Lucifer: That was a move I call, "Gentlemen, start your engines". It's bloody brilliant.
  • Did I Just Say That Out Loud?: Dan muttering about still being sour about his divorce with Chloe.
Lucifer: What on Earth are you talking about?
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Maze feels under-appreciated in this episode. When Maze shows Chloe the newspaper of Perry Smith's death and brags about how he got what he deserved, Chloe says he deserved to rot in jail and whoever killed him is just as bad as him. Later, when Maze went to see Dan and thought of celebrating with a drink, Dan tells her they need to lay low until the situation blows over.
  • Gonna Need More X: Chloe asks Lucifer for a list of everyone he's slept with in the last eight weeks. He tells her she's going to need a bigger notepad.
  • Internal Reveal: The viewer already knows that Dan slept with Charlotte, since that was shown a few episodes ago, but Chloe didn't and now finds out thanks to Maze.
  • Moment Killer: An Almost Kiss between Lucifer and Chloe is interrupted by a Sexy Stewardess.
  • Noodle Implements: Most of Lucifer's sexual moves. One involves a Tibetan singing pot and artisan honey, one involves Vaseline and a car battery, and one involves a Pan flute and a butternut squash, but apparently is usually performed with zucchinis.
  • Noodle Incident: Lucifer apparently slept with a sexy Richard Nixon impersonator who could plausibly be mistaken for Suki. (Suki is petite, Asian, and in no way resembles Richard Nixon.)
  • Psycho Ex-Girlfriend: Chloe believes this may be the murderer's motivation, since Lucifer is seemingly the only connection between the two victims. Lucifer is unhappy to find out that none of the women he slept with cared enough about him to murder.
  • Really Gets Around: Despite being the Devil himself and the owner of a high-profile nightclub in the middle of Los Angeles, the scale of Lucifer's promiscuity isn't fully displayed until this episode. After two dozen episodes, Chloe's investigation leads her to ask Lucifer for "a list of everyone [he's] slept with over the past eight weeks". His first remark—before the scene cuts to a police precinct full of women (and at least one man)—is that she needs a bigger notepad. And when Dan expresses incredulity that Lucifer actually bedded all of them, he retorts by saying that the past two months were a dry spell.
  • Police Are Useless: The police are so convinced that the connection between the two victims (shot with the same gun) is that they were both on the (very long) list of Lucifer's ex-lovers that they fail to notice that they worked together as flight crew on a plane.
  • Sexy Stewardess: Jana is a stewardess and acts sexy, crashing Lucifer's apartment for a bootie call and starting to undress in front of Chloe.
  • Stalker Shrine: Suki has a wall covered with pictures of Lucifer and women/men he slept with (plus Chloe), each picture with a description of what/who/when, and ordered in sections ("Here is the "stewardesses" section!). Lucifer is both admiring and totally creeped out. Someone who can do that to Lucifer is a force to be reckoned with.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Suki, despite this she is not violent or jealous, just really, really obsessed.
