Season 6, Episode 13:
The Last Recruit
As Jack finally meets "Locke" face-to-face, the War for the Island begins in earnest when Widmore sends the Man in Black an ultimatum and Sawyer siezes the chance to enact his plan. In the flash-sideways timeline, Locke and Sun are brought to the hospital while Jack learns about his half-sister with some help from Desmond.
Tropes in this episode include:
- Ambiguous Situation: Sayid tells Desmond that he wants to be reunited with the woman he loved, and it's still not clear if he's talking about Nadia or Shannon.
- Armor-Piercing Question: Desmond hits Sayid with one when he's about to kill him on the Man in Black's orders.Desmond: So, what will you tell her?
Sayid: What do you mean?
Desmond: This woman—when she asks you what you did to be with her again...what will you tell her? - Big Damn Reunion: After three years apart Sun and Jin are finally reunited.
- Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: No sooner does Sawyer's group reach Hydra Island than Widmore breaks the deal they made, puts the whole group at gunpoint, and then tries to kill "Locke".
- Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure: Though Sawyer has shown some knowledge of the Star Wars films, he isn't a big enough fan to know Darth Vader's real name.Sawyer: Sayid ain't invited. He's gone over to the dark side.
Hurley: Yeah, but you can always bring people back from the dark side. I mean, Anakin—
Sawyer: Who the hell's Anakin? - The Reveal: The Man in Black confirms that he took the form of Christian Shephard after the plane crash, and Christian was never resurrected.
- Self-Serving Memory: Claire trusts Locke because he didn’t “abandon” her. Why is that word in quotes? She’s the one who abandoned them.
- Unreliable Expositor: The Man in Black claims he took Christian's form to help the survivors by leading Jack to a water source at the caves. He conveniently neglects to remind Jack of how he nearly tricked him into running off the edge of a cliff and falling to his death.
