Recap / Little Princess S 4 E 19 I Want My Treehouse

Go To

On a normal day in the castle, the Princess is playing tea party with Gilbert... up a tree. She hears sneezing coming from the next tree over and thinks the tree has a cold, but the narrator thinks there's probably a person in the tree. The Princess gleefully says, "He's here!", and when the narrator asks who, she replies that the Maid's nephew Algie is coming to visit.

The Princess comes out of the tree and invites Algie over to play, but he says no, and asks to be called Algernon. The Princess plans to climb up Algernon's tree but he says no, because "we're busy". As it turns out, the Maid is up there with him and she's building a treehouse.

The Princess decides to one-up Algernon and the Maid by building her own treehouse, with a doorbell. She and the General build a floor and add a doorbell to it, but then she looks through her telescope and sees the Maid also installing a doorbell, that plays Hallelujah, and that Algernon also has a bed in his treehouse.

The Princess decides she also wants a bed, so she leaves, but the General doesn't know how to climb down. Meanwhile, Puss and Scruff have Horace tow their basket around so they can ride in it.

The Princess gets the Queen and insists on having a bed in her treehouse, and while the Queen is initially dubious, when she sees Algernon's bed, decides the Princess will need a queen-sized bed at least. Once the bed is installed, the Princess looks through the telescope to see the Admiral adding a sail to Algernon's treehouse and Algernon blowing raspberries and singing, "Na na nee na na". Once the Queen looks and sees the King giving Algernon's treehouse a light, she becomes very grumpy and leaves.

The Princess adds a swing for Gilbert to her treehouse, while the Queen brings a vacuum cleaner, the Chef a sink, and the Prime Minister some window boxes and a chandelier. She starts telling the guys to add the items, but the Princess doesn't want them.

Then, the Queen has the Princess and General sneak up on the Maid, King, Admiral, and Algernon and steal their bathtub. They hide in the bathtub while the Maid comes over and complains about the others stealing the bathtub and having "supplies", such as fairy cakes. The General denies taking the tub, so the Maid takes it back.

Back at the Princess's treehouse, the Queen has added the decorations and now wants to add a swimming pool, but the Princess doesn't want one. Then, Algernon decides that he doesn't want a bath, so the Maid decides to add a pool to his treehouse.

The grown-ups go to the shed to race for the pool, while the Princess sulks because she doesn't want the things in her treehouse. This perplexes the narrator because he thinks the Princess's enhanced treehouse is cool. The Princess and narrator wonder how Algernon is doing, but he looks unhappy.

The kids, frustrated, go down to find the adults arguing over the wading pool. The Princess yells at them about not wanting a swimming pool, and she decides having a treehouse isn't worth the adults fighting. Algernon doesn't want a treehouse anymore either, then the treehouses fall to bits. This ends the fight, but unfortunately, things go from bad to worse because now everyone's in a bad mood. The kids, however, cheer up and decide to build their own treehouse.

This episode provides examples of

  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Puss wears shades at one point.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The episode ends with the kids happy but the adults sad.
  • Blatant Lies: The General denies stealing the bathtub even though the Maid had caught him in the act.
  • Blowing a Raspberry: Algernon blows a raspberry to the Queen and Princess when he's teasing them about having a flasher treehouse.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Algernon doesn't like being called "Algie".
  • Fingore: Discussed when the Princess is hammering in nails and the General tells her to watch out for his fingers as he only has ten.
  • Jumping-to-Conclusions Diagnosis: The Princess thinks the tree (actually Algernon) has a cold because he just sneezed twice.
  • Kitchen Sink Included: The Queen adds a literal kitchen sink among her decorations to the Princess's treehouse.
  • A Lizard Named "Liz": Algernon has a plush frog named Mr. Froggy.
  • Never Trust a Title: The Princess spends more time in this episode not wanting her treehouse than actually wanting it.
  • Not So Above It All: The normally down-to-earth Maid jumps on Algernon's treehouse bed with him. Then, she and the Queen have petty arguments over the treehouse.
  • Pun: The Maid wonders if the General was "taking [her and Algernon's] bath" when he was stealing it. A double pun, because he had previously said he was "taking some air".
  • Significant Name Shift: At the end of "I Want My Treehouse", Princess finally calls Algernon by his name instead of his Embarrassing Nickname Algie, while he becomes fine with her using the nickname. This signifies that they've made friends.
  • Slipping into Stink: At one point, the General trips on a wheelbarrow and lands in a mud puddle.
  • Temporarily Exaggerated Trait:
    • The Queen can be a bit of a cross-patch, but here, she's very snippy for no apparent reason.
    • The General's a bit of a manchild, but here, he thrashes around on the floor saying, "It's not fair".
