Recap / Little House On The Prairie S 7 E 12 The Nephews

Go To

Tropes associated with this episode:

  • Anachronism Stew: Royal bribes the boys by promising them each "an Indian nickel" if they behave during their stay with Aunt Laura and Uncle Almanzo (predictably, Rupert and Myron then persuade their father to make the reward a silver dollar to split between them). However, the Indian nickel (or "Buffalo nickel") wasn't minted until 1913.
  • The Cameo: Charles only makes a brief appearance in this episode, during a short scene where Almanzo stops by the Ingalls' place.
  • Idiot Ball: Held by Laura and Almanzo, who at one point, leave Myron and Rupert home alone while they go into town, despite all the trouble that the boys have already caused.
  • Pushover Parents: Royal and Millie seem to have no problem with their sons' out-of-control behavior, or at least can't bring themselves to control them.
  • Spoiled Brat: Almanzo's titular nephews Rupert and Myron, to the nth degree; the pair spend their entire visit playing mean-spirited pranks, starting a food fight at the table and generally causing endless trouble for Laura and Almanzo.
  • Who Would Be Stupid Enough?: Early on, Royal wonders who would be dumb enough to watch his bratty sons while he and Millie are on vacation; cut to a shot of Almanzo immediately afterward.
