Guilt can teach many things to a heart humbled by intent.

An old woman tells her great nephew a story about the 'Veiled One' as a lesson on revenge.

The story can be read here.

  • Armor-Piercing Question: Morgana is able to immediately sus out the Priest's true colors by inquiring about his "lessons". His reaction is pretty telling.
“‘But you do enjoy them,’ she said.
    “‘I beg—’
“‘Tell me, scarred master, are your lessons truly for the good of your students? Or do you punish them to relish their suffering?’ said the Veiled One.
  • Big Brother Bully: Implied to be the case with Rin's brother, who hit him in the eye with back of a hatchet. Though their great aunt implies it was an accident.
  • Cool Old Lady: Peria is a very laid-back but incredibly knowledgeable woman keen to the history of Demacia, and who is able to persuade Rin from indulging in an ill-thought vengeance scheme.
  • Hypocrite: Morgana notes the Priest's hypocrisy for expecting his Pupil to repent, but refusing to do so himself.
“‘You came to me for another’s punishment,’ she hissed. ‘But you ignore your own sins. Your sick pride swells as they come back to you, Cleric. Since you refuse to look yourself, I will make you feel the pain you caused.’
  • Sadist Teacher: Peria's story stars a Priest who travels with his Pupil so the latter can repent to Morgana for scarring the former. But as the situation is unraveled, it turns out the Priest is responsible for abusing many of his students, to which the Pupil had reacted to with force. The Priest tries to stop the Pupil from divulging this information to Morgana so he doesn't face her wrath.
  • Third-Party Peacekeeper: Morgana, the 'Veiled One', acted as a mediator to the people of Demacia centuries ago, ensuring that conflicts could be solved amongst each other, by force or otherwise.
"Those with disputes they could not solve themselves would come to her for final judgment, to seek wisdom, absolution—and occasionally, punishment. But they did so with caution, for it was also known that her lessons could be severe."
  • Vengeance Feels Empty: A theme enforced by Peria and her story, as a means to get Rin to drop his grudge against his brother.
“He deserves his own black eye!”
“And if you gave him one, what lesson do you think he would learn from that, hmm?”
Rin did not think Aunt Peria would much like his response, so he stayed silent.
