Written By Robert Brooks Cohen

Directed By Michael Pressman

Rollins' mother (Virginia Madsen) Beth Rollins throws her a baby shower, which is interrupted when SVU is called to a hotel after a violinist is raped by her flutist colleague, Anton (Zach McGowan). The man has no recollection of his wrongdoings and claims he was drugged and robbed by an escort; which turns out to be Rollin's fugitive sister, Kim (Lindsay Pulsipher), who stole Anton's flute to pawn for quick drug money. Rollins then has to have to track down her sister before Benson and Tutuola find out her secret, leading to her family issues coming to light. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Dodds introduces his son, Mike (Andy Karl), as SVU's new sergeant.

Tropes

  • Big, Screwed-Up Family: It was already pretty heavily suggested, but this episode makes it extremely clear that Rollins' family is this.
  • It's All About Me: Kim Rollins and her mom have this attitude. Beth Rollins doubles down on this when she chastises Amanda for getting Kim arrested (in spite that there was an warrant for her arrest prior to the additional charges presented to her) and how Amanda needs to learn the understanding of family.
  • Kick the Dog: Kim more or less reveals that if her case goes to trial, her and Amanda's history (primarily Amanda's) will be revealed. She does it while smiling and stating that things will work out for her.
  • Nepotism: Fin makes a snarky comment to this effect while Dodds and his son are in with Benson. However, there are already hints (confirmed later in the season) that he won't be fully playing the trope straight.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Crossed with Took a Level in Dumbass. Amanda's sister Kim, returned to New York acting as an escort, in spite of the fact that there is an active warrant of arrest on her. Upon a reunion with her sister, she acts as a full-blown Hypocrite; chastising her sister for her pregnancy in spite of all the shit that she's done to her sister and more.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Amanda forcing Beth to lead the police to Kim when she's in danger due to her own selfishness leads to Kim being arrested for the outstanding warrant. But even if Kim hadn't fought the guy after her off on a self-defense charge, Beth turns around and tries to rip into Amanda for "putting her job over her family" while refusing to acknowledge Kim's own crimes. Kim doubles down on this that she refused to listen to Amanda in spite her trying to advise her and come down to precinct willingly, acts as if she did nothing wrong and that Amanda is to blame for her troubles.
