A big tech CEO replaces hundreds of employees with an AI, then is murdered. After the chief suspect's confession is thrown out, Nolan and Maroun must decide whether to use a video which purports to show the murderer killing the victim—but which could have been a deepfake manufactured by that same AI.

  • Ambiguous Situation: Ben Stafford is believed by the prosecutors to be the murderer of Evan Marks. However, Marks' former business partner James Sawyer had just as much as reason to kill Evan as Stafford did because he was planning on kicking him out of the company. Sawyer also explicitly hid this info from both the detectives and the DA's office. Although Stafford confessed to Riley and Shaw, he was clearly not in his right mind; that said, he was in possession of the murder weapon. Sawyer also conveniently found security footage of Stafford committing the murder right after Stafford's lawyer crucified him on the stand. In the end, while the tape can neither proved real or fake, Stafford is convicted, but even then Nolan is unsure if he made the right call.
  • Asshole Victim: Evan Marks fired hundreds of his employees after having an AI developed to do their jobs more cheaply. He was then murdered.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Stafford is convicted, but only after Nolan and Maroun rely on the video Sawyer 'found,' which could have been faked.
