Recap / Law And Order S 22 E 2 Battle Lines

Go To

When Nolan and Shaw investigate a victim who was apparently killed by a mugger, they soon learn that the killer may have had political motives, and that the key witness may have other priorities besides justice.

  • Be as Unhelpful as Possible: Andrea lies to the police by claiming that she didn't know Becca, then initially refused to testify after Blake was arrested, because she was afraid of being prosecuted for (technically) violating a felony kidnapping charge.
  • Chairman of the Brawl: Steven Cabrera, a suspect, hits Shaw with a green folding chair.
  • Continuity Snarl: The previous episode had Frank mention his daughter being 15, but here she says she is 17, the same age as the victim.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • As much of a proponent of old-fashioned policing he may be, Frank is uncool with an officer doing a stop-and-frisk on a guy who didn't actually match the suspect's description.
    • The university student giving Becca a tour of the campus was certainly angry that she went out drinking and partying, but she wouldn't rat her out.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Ron Carter is clearly modeled after Texas Governor Greg Abbott, with a penchant for the media theatrics, a pro-life campaign and gray hair. The only thing missing is a wheelchair.
  • Ripped from the Headlines: The story is based on the Texas abortion ban.
  • Sudden Downer Ending: After Andrea decides to risk prosecution and testifies about what really happened, Blake is convicted, but then Andrea is gunned down by a pro-life activist upon leaving the courthouse.
  • Suspect Is Hatless: Frank points out, "there are a thousands of white guys with hats."
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Jack is less than pleased that Mrs. Carter is on Nolan's witness list, as his questions to her may paint him in an unflattering light.
