Recap / Law And Order S 22 E 20 Class Retreat

Go To

The case against Aaron Cole, a boy who murdered his girlfriend's father, becomes personal for Cosgrove when he learns his daughter was the one who told the boy that the girlfriend claimed her father was abusive and thus provided the motive for the crime.

  • Ambiguous Situation: It's ultimately left rather unclear if Jerome Elliot, the girlfriend's father really was abusive or she had merely exaggerated his disciplinary actions for her minor vices like possessing a vape pen and purchasing concert tickets without his approval.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Cole is convicted of second degree murder, but neither Price or Maroun (who pushed for it) seem particularly happy that they've sent a kid to prison for most of his life. While Cosgrove's daughter is spared further upset at the trial, it's implied that she still has issues which she hasn't told her father.
  • Off on a Technicality: The lawyers worry about this after Cole's confession is suppressed.
  • Red Herring: The detectives initially suspect a guy the victim fired as well as the boy the victim was seeing on the side, but both turn out to be innocent.
