While being towed off to the police station by Mr. Moustache, Specs Doc and Skinny Doc find a photo of them as kids and reminisce about how they met in lab school.
"Origins" contains the following tropes:
- Bully Turned Buddy: Skinny Doc constantly torments Specs Doc every chance he can get, with Specs Doc being none too pleased. It isn't until they cause an accident in the Boss's lab that they end up reconciling and becoming friends.
- Diegetic Soundtrack Usage: Lamput whistles the theme song after he walks away from the scene of the docs' supposed robbery.
- Everyone Went to School Together: Specs Doc, Skinny Doc, and Mr. Moustache all went to the same school, with the Boss as a teacher. Lamput was created in one of the labs in the building.
- Formerly Fat: Mr. Moustache was quite bulky when he was young, not becoming the muscular macho he is until later.
- Misery Trigger: Mr. Moustache reuses the beckoning motion that the docs used on him in school, causing them to scream in horror.
- Mistaken for Thief: The docs catch Lamput in the window of a jewelry store, accumulating a lot of jewelry on them and cracking the window, making it look like they robbed the store. Mr. Moustache sees them and immediately brings them into his van.
- Monochrome Past: The flashback segments are shown in a muted color scheme.
- Origins Episode: It shows how the docs turned into friends, and at the very end of the episode, how Lamput was made.
- Whole Episode Flashback: Much of the episode is about the docs' experiences in school.
