Tropes

  • Abusive Parents: Sam admitted he had so many kids so he could use them as unpaid labor in order to cut costs. The kids were naturally all miserable working unpaid jobs for him.
  • Big Brother Bully: Jamal, the eldest son, is the most vocally argumentative of the bunch despite having the least responsible job (a cashier).
  • Big, Screwed-Up Family: Sam's children constantly have arguments between each other due to the stress of the job, and their father exacerbates matter with his controlling attitude.
  • Bittersweet Ending: An interesting case - despite the restaurant's relaunch going 100% smoothly with no issues (unlike most which "break down" an hour into the relaunch), the place closed down because business failed to pick up due to local competition; in fact, another Mediterranean restaurant had opened and took their business in short order. Of course, Sam admitted that he only had children so he could have unpaid employees for his business later in life, so the restaurant's closing at least allowed his children to go on their own and live independent lives.
  • Control Freak: Sam is meddling with every aspect of his kids' life, making them stressed due to making them his slaves.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Sam breaks down in tears when he realizes he's robbed his children of choice as he's confronted with the truth.
