Recap / King Of The Hill S 4 E 17 Bill Of Sales

Go To

When Peggy gets involved with a pyramid scheme, she finds a natural salesman in the strangest of people: Bill.

  • Heel Realization: Once Peggy sees Bill bleeding from his foot and severely limping while loading the last of the nutrition bars into his car that she's been pushing to have him sell by the end of the day, she finally realizes how much advantage she's been taking of of Bill, fires him and quits the scheme herself.
  • Hidden Depths: Turns out Bill is extremely skilled at selling MetaLife's produces in massive quantities: he sells most of their nutrition bars to army recruits, replaces the magazines in his barber shop with their ad pamphlets, and once he and Peggy are invited to a hotel for a party honoring the upper tiers of the pyramid and Peggy decides she wants to reach the next level of the pyramid ASAP and places an order for 2000 more of their nutrition bars and tells Bill to sell them, he's already sold half of them by the time they walk out of the party by convincing the hotel to replace their buffet items with them.
  • Ponzi: MetaLife is a fairly obvious one. Though they try calling it a triangle.
Peggy: Then just return the order. I'm pretty sure the triangle can handle it.
    Laney: It's not a triangle. It's a damn pyramid!
  • Special Guest: Teri Garr as Laney.
  • Reverse Psychology: Since Bill is used to and only knows how to handle rejection from women, Peggy being nice to him when he turns out to be her ticket to climbing the pyramid confuses and frightens him and he quits working for her when she offers to give him the double diamond pin that she got but Bill really deserves for all the sales he's made, and any of her attempts to convince him to change his mind by being nice to him fail. Thus, she brainstorms together a list of personal insults towards him with Bobby and Luanne, which she successfully uses to make Bill change his mind and start selling the newest order the next morning.
