Recap / King Of The Hill S 13 E 15 Serves Me Right For Giving General George

Go To

Hank receives a bizarre list of posthumous requests from Cotton, the last of which is to flush his cremated remains down a specific toilet. Meanwhile, Bill and Dale engage in a fight over a beer can Dale refuses to pick up off Bill's lawn.

Tropes:

  • Call-Back: Luanne is seen working on Bill's car at the beginning of the episode, a reference to her skill as a mechanic, which was largely forgotten after the first couple of seasons.
  • Interservice Rivalry: Bill gets the bar distracted by invoking a debate of this nature, as everyone devolves into arguing about who fought in the last "Great" war.
  • Retcon: Cotton's desire to be buried in the Texas State Cemetery is overwritten for this episode's plot.
  • Series Continuity Error: Apart from the retcon regarding Cotton's death wishes, the episode also has him implore Hank to pay a visit to a French woman he made love with in France, even though "Cotton's Plot" established that he'd only ever fought in Japan. In fact, a major plot point in the latter episode was the revelation that Cotton was misremembering a lot of his supposed wartime experiences.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: During their argument, Bill admits to Dale that he hadn't liked him for years and that the only reason he ever hung out with him was because of Hank and Boomhauer.
Dale: Then how come just last week, you said you were my best friend?
Bill: I pretended you were Hank when I said it!
  • Troll: Even from beyond the grave, Cotton finds ways to make Hank's quest to fulfill his requests a misery. Such as ordering the son of one of his squadmate to stomp on his foot after he received the single spat from Hank.
Little Fatty: And sorry about the stomping. That was Cotton's wish.
