The Test, Part 1

Krash decides to test Chiko's trust after listening to a program on the radio. He makes the "quantograbber" and asks Chiko if he can keep a secret. They bury the device in the forest and agree not to tell anyone about its location. The next day, Krash sees Rosa paying Chiko a visit, and lets her in on his secret as well.

After this, Krash finally reveals to Chiko what a quantograbber is. It's an alien device from the planet Apsimar, which the space pirates of the Dragonfly Nebula are greatly interested in and try to hunt it down. The apsimarians then sent it to Earth, where Krash found it. The aliens contacted with him through the device, telling him to hide it where no one can ever see it. Chiko starts getting worried and tells Krash that they should hide it in a much more secluded place.

With that in mind, they go to Pin so he can give them a safe to hide the quantograbber in. The two friends then hide it all in a cave, where it's now safe and sound with no space pirates to find it.

The Test, Part 2

After a while, Krash begins getting concerned that Chiko still hasn't cracked yet. He finds Rosa and tells her to ask Chiko for a password without telling what it's from. She does just that, making Chiko even more nervous, but he still doesn't tell her.

At night, Chiko becomes completely paranoid, and asks Krash to change the safe's password. Despite this, he's still paranoid, even dreaming about the space pirates. They then decide to cover the entrance to the cave with a boulder so absolutely no one can get the quantograbber. This makes Chiko relieved and happy, but Krash is still sad because Chiko actually succeeded in the test... And because he can't make breakfast due to the parts from his household items being used to make the quantograbber.

Meanwhile, the space pirates who spied on Chiko throughout the episode agree that he passed the test and they are now ready to accept him in the pirate brotherhood...

Tropes:

  • Call-Back: The cave on the top of the mountain in which Krash and Chiko hide quantograbber is the same one Rosa and Wally found in "Two Magicians".
  • Keeping Secrets Sucks: Chiko launches into full-on paranoia due to his suspicion of not hiding the device hard enough.
  • Narrator All Along: The whole episode turned out to be made from the recordings of space pirates, who were testing Chiko.
  • Or Was It a Dream?: Chiko seemingly dreamt up the whole thing about space pirates threatening to take away his candy wrappers if he didn't tell them where the quantograbber is. However, it's implied that this might've happened in reality.
  • The Password Is Always "Swordfish": "Carrot" is the first thing Krash chooses as the password, which Chiko immediately rejects for being too simple. When Krash changes the password for him, Chiko immediately and correctly guesses he picked "carrot' again.
  • Real After All: Implied in the ending, where space pirates actually appear in reality, getting ready to accept Chiko into their brotherhood. The static used in transitions between scenes also implies that they were spying on him the whole time.
  • Secret-Keeper: Krash asks Chiko to be this for a while. To his disappointment, he succeeds.
  • Secret Test of Character: Krash tells Chiko to not tell anyone about the quantograbber and constantly tempts him to do so. Chiko doesn't say a thing to anyone.
  • Shout-Out: Krash and Chiko fill up the entrance to the cave with a round stone just like in Alyosha Popovich and Tugarin Zmey.
