Recap / Kids Incorporated S 7 E 17 Double Trouble

Go To

This episode, the last to feature Eric as a primary character, sees the kids baffled when a friend of his named Billynote  seemingly flips back and forth between enjoying pranks and despising them.

Things start off with a performance of "Feels Good" before a newcomer walks into the P*lace asking for directions to the library, only for Flip's directions to be rather convoluted (eventually sounding similar to the Who's on First? bit) before it turns out (based on Eric's; Robin's and Kenny's cheering) to be a stunt for Eric and the other kid, named Billy, as the "champion jokesters" (Billy appearing very much to be a kid after Eric's own heart). We then go to "Lollipop" (continuing a doo-wop heavy tread for Season 7). Exit Billy and enter another kid that looked remarkably like Billynote . The newcomer apparently doesn't recognize Eric (who think he's Billy) or have much interest in chatting with Eric as he quickly leaves the counter. Eric then tells the others about "Billy" not recognizing him, though Robin tries to assure him that "Billy" was kidding around. Billy then returns only for Eric to give him an icy glare, before things thaw and Billy offers to buy sodas once he gets his wallet. The kids, puzzled, then follow "Billy" (and prove stealth is not their strength). Meanwhile, the real Billy returns with wallet...and a note for a meeting with his history teacher, leaving everyone confused, including "Billy" (who storms off when Eric tries to get answers) - leaving Eric at his wit's end ("How Can We Be Friends"). Eventually, the kids return to the P*lace for refreshments, including Eric - and everyone else - wanting sprinkles on their ice cream (everyone ordering strawberry except Ana; who orders pistachio and - after initially declining, eventually takes sprinkles on her ice cream as well), only for "Billy" to arrive and things rapidly deteriorate; setting up "All Around the World".

We finally get a resolution when the kids, arriving for a confrontation with Billy, end up being introduced to Billy's twin brother Bobby (Bobby being the shier, more serious of the brothers in contrast to the more outgoing, prankish Billy), leading to the others starting a friendship with Bobby and both brothers, perhaps seeking to atone for the confusion, buying sodas; setting up closing number "Swear to Your Heart".

Tropes associated with this episode:

  • A Round of Drinks for the House: Billy offers to buy sodas for the kids when he returns to the P*lace as soon as he gets his wallet. Bobby is unaware of this when this is brought up later, though as an apparent peace offering both brothers offer to buy sodas.
  • Friendship Song: "How Can We Be Friends" as the kids try to make sense of the Billy situation.
  • Imagine Spot: "All Around the World" is set in foggy London, complete with Billy (who the kids still don't know has a twin brother at this point) as a phantom.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: "Billy" seemingly flipping back and forth between enjoying and resenting pranks. Ultimately a Subverted Trope when it's revealed that the kid they thought was Billy that didn't recognize Eric...was Billy's twin brother Bobby.
  • The Power of Friendship: What leads to the kids trying to help Eric figure out what's going on with Billy.
  • The Prankster: Billy and Eric, but notably not Bobby.
  • Twin Switch: An apparently unintentional version where Billy and Bobby end up switching appearances frequently.
