Recap / Kevin Can Fuck Himself S 02 E 06 The Machine

Go To

Kevin continues to lament the loss of his local celebrity status as the newspaper dubs a horse the new “Worcester Wild Dude.” He shows the offending paper to his father, Pete, who’s living in the McRoberts’ basement. Emboldened by the need for revenge, Kevin gets the reporter, Kelly, fired and places a decapitated stuffed horse plush head on the hood of her car, complete with fake blood.

Meanwhile, Diane and Neil sit in bed at the local motel post-coitus. Neil proposes they see a movie together, but Diane clarifies they’re a “just-in-this-room sorta thing.” Neil seems to take it in stride but is secretly disappointed.

Allison and Sam discuss how the former will fake her death. Sam isn’t a fan of Allison’s suggestions. They also need to snag an ID, as she’ll be changing her name to Gertrude Fronch. While Sam’s driving, a car crashes into them on Allison’s side. Fortunately, both emerge only slightly scathed (and deeply shaken).

Allison arrives at Patty’s after the accident. Allison left the scene before EMTs arrived, fearing they’d take her to the hospital. However, her shoulder popped out of place, so she asks Patty to return it to its socket. She does so after they both get drunk and confident enough to do it. The following day, Kevin remarks that Allison’s been working a lot at the diner and believes Sam’s “working her to the bone” and leaving her too tired to attend to her household duties such as cleaning.

Later, Sam returns home with his arm in a cast and car damaged to find Jenn waiting for him in the kitchen. Jenn tearfully reveals that Kevin stopped by the house, telling her that he believes Sam is working Allison too hard and that Sam keeps the diner open to avoid his “disastrous home life.” Jenn asks about Allison. Sam proposes they talk despite Jenn’s reluctance. Afterward, Sam informs Allison they’re getting a divorce. Sam admits he’s actually relieved and happy about this, though problems arise when Jenn’s parents put forth a lawsuit wanting to claim ownership of the restaurant.

While at the bar, Allison spots Diane and Neil together from afar. When she arrives home, Allison rejects Kevin’s offer of hot tub time in favor of hanging out with Diane. Later, Allison reveals to Diane she knows about her affair fling with Neil. Allison cautions Diane about who Neil is and not to get too attached. Diane insists she knows what she’s doing. After the bar visit with Allison, Diane gets dressed up for Neil’s visit. However, he doesn’t show up, even after she sends a few texts.

Meanwhile, Tammy lightly scolds Patty for not making headway with packing despite Patty’s insistence that there’s one box in the beginning packing stages. Patty’s still hungover from her night with Allison, so she hurries off quickly to vomit. Later, Diane stops by to confront Neil for not showing up. He brushes her off, claiming he’s been neglecting plans with Kevin. He proceeds to insult Diane before she storms out. With this, Diane heads to an AA meeting.

Patty attempts to make a dent in packing her belongings for the move to Tammy’s place. However, she’s distracted when she hears Neil making a commotion upstairs. She finds him plastered following his pub crawl with Kevin. Patty attempts to persuade her brother to stay home instead of venturing to find Kevin.

Meanwhile, Allison plants the bug in Kevin’s ear regarding Sam’s “terrible divorce settlement” in the hopes the latter will find a solution to Sam’s problem. Later, Allison and Patty chat while the latter attempts to pack her belongings in preparation for the move before Tammy enters the fray. She follows Allison out the door for a quick conversation. Tammy reveals she’s worried about Patty and shows Allison the camera footage of Patty entering the gas station in Vermont. Allison shrugs it off, claiming it must be a misunderstanding.

After Tammy departs, Allison meets with Sam, who has exciting news - a plaintiff named “Kelvin McLoberts” issued a lawsuit against the diner for a “slip and fall”, and since Jenn’s parents would’ve been on the hook for the payout, they relinquished their move to seize ownership of Bev’s. Allison tells Sam she’s figured out a way to use Kevin’s unique ability to ruin things to fix her problems and she has a plan to weaponize Kevin against Tammy.

Tropes

  • Disproportionate Retribution: When he's dethroned as the Worcester Wild Dude, Kevin gets revenge on the reporter who crowned a horse with the title by getting her fired.
  • Shout-Out: Kevin leaving a decapitated plush horse head on Kelly's car, complete with fake blood, is clearly meant to invoke The Godfather.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Being the wife of the Worcester Wild Dude earns Allison a few sweet perks like free drinks at the bar.
  • Spanner in the Works: Kevin's general idiocy and bullheadedness make him effective at being one of these, driving Allison to weaponize it in some way.
