Jane and Petra clash over the position of room mom at the preschool. Xiomara feels nervous and uncertain following her engagement as Bruce helps Rogelio prep for his court hearing. The police reopen the Scott investigation after they are sent his burn book.

- Cute Kitten: Invoked. The narrator watches a cute cat video to get away from the stress of Jane vs. Petra.
- Disposable Fiancé: Bruce is the "bland nice guy" variety; Xo ends their engagement after she realizes that she might still have feelings for Rogelio.
- Election Day Episode: Parodied with Petra and Jane in the race for the position of room mom. There are multiple faceoff posters featuring the two of them as they try to win the other moms to their side and a dinner with some of the other women where they talk about the filling for the playground imagined as a debate. There are also light jabs at the 2016 US presidential elections.Narrator: Not another close election! I can't handle the stress!
- Hourglass Plot: Lampshaded by the narrator in terms of Petra and Jane's mothering skills. Prior to Rafael's stint in prison, Jane was the more competent mom; in the present, Petra is easily raising two twin girls while Jane struggles with the rowdy Mateo.
- Politicians Kiss Babies: Parodied as Petra and Jane zero in on Rafael as a potential room mom — he's imagined kissing a baby from the preschool as the election's projected winner.
- Silver Vixen: Invoked by Xo, who has Alba wear makeup, heels, and a form-fitting dress so she can snag her office crush.
- Take a Third Option: When it comes down to it, neither Jane nor Petra really wants to be room mom, so they decide to get Rafael to do it instead.
