Recap / Jackie Chan Adventures S 2 E 25 The New Atlantis

Go To

The Dark Hand releases Bai Tza, the Water Demon. She seeks out her old kingdom – Atlantis, but when she finds it in ruins, she chooses to drown San Francisco as a new home with some information from Finn. Meanwhile, Valmont manages to render Shendu out cold and seeks help from the Chans to exorcise him from his body. However, Uncle is preoccupied with finding a spell to stop the flood, so the Chans with Valmont have to face Bai Tza without him.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Atlantis: Bai Tza plans to flood San Francisco to create a new underwater capital city.
  • Big Brother Instinct / Papa Wolf: Tohru threatens to turn Valmont inside out if he lets Jade come to any harm. Valmont takes this seriously.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Bai Tza is still in the human world and Shendu remains inside of Valmont's body at the end of the episode. However, Uncle does manage to stop Bai Tza's flood.
  • Brits Love Tea: Tohru makes tea for Uncle while he works. Valmont mentions that he'd love a spot, but backs down when he sees Tohru's Death Glare.
  • California Collapse: Bai Tza's plan involves the San Andreas fault line.
  • Call-Back: Tohru is in no mood to tolerate Valmont, due to being ordered to go up against Shendu.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Upon seeing Jade's usual routine, Valmont finally understands why Jackie's niece is always with him. "And here I just thought you were horribly irresponsible."
  • Didn't Think This Through: When Bai Tza demands he direct her to a suitable replacement for her old kingdom, Finn says "Mi Casa, Su Casanote , your amphibiousness". Two things he forgot is where the Dark Hand's hideout was and that Bai Tza is basically a mermaid.
    Bai Tza: A fish cannery?!
    Finn: (beat) See your point.
  • Elemental Shapeshifter: Bai Tza can turn herself into water and back again at will.
  • Enemy Mine: Valmont tries to help the heroes stop Bai Tza in exchange for an exorcism.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Bai Tza expresses outrage over Shendu saying he technically upheld his end of the deal, saying their siblings are still trapped in the void.
  • Exact Words: Shendu points out to Bai Tza that he kept his word about releasing all of his siblings. It wasn't his fault that Jackie and the others kept banishing them back.
  • Hypocrite: Valmont makes light of Tohru holding a grudge over last season, saying Jackie has him doing the exact same thing: fighting a demon. Though to be fair Chan isn't making Tohru face her alone, something Valmont has overlooked.
  • Irony:
    • Finn tries to make nice with Bai Tza by pointing out she's a fish and he has a fish-like name. Being in a fish cannery makes it quite moot, however.
    • The one time Jade hears Jackie saying to come along on an adventure, and it turns out he's talking to Valmont and not her.
  • Knowledge Broker: Valmont exploits his knowledge of the situation when negotiating a deal for the exorcism.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Valmont admits his surprise over how Jade always finding a way to tag along, saying up to now that he thought Jackie was just a very irresponsible guardian.
  • Loophole Abuse: Jackie had explicitly told Jade to stay with Tohru. She responded by convincing Tohru to bring her to the site of the action. Tohru sheepishly admits the kid is very persuasive.
  • Making a Splash: Bai Tza's power.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Jade insisting that Valmont go help Jackie and Tohru leads to the suppressing marker being washed off, leaving Shendu still in control of his body.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Bai Tza's refusal to honor Valmont's plea to be freed of Shendu leads to him going to Jackie for help and revealing what he knows about her plan.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Valmont reminds Jackie that they both want nothing more than for Shendu to be gone.
  • Oh, Crap!: While being pursued by Jackie and Uncle, Bai Tza comes out of an alleyway and into a street, right in front of an oncoming bus. She makes a shocked expression before she is hit by the bus, materializing into a puddle of water.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Valmont promises to take good care of Jade, as the alternative is Tohru ripping him limb from limb.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Fin, Ratso and Chow head for the hills (or possibly Utah) to escape Bai Tza's flood. Shendu is only too happy to see the back of them.
Shendu: Never seeing any of you ever again would make me a very happy dragon.
  • Speak of the Devil: While Shendu is trying to explain to Bai Tza that the Chans were responsible for their other six brethren being trapped back in the netherworld, Jackie and Uncle drive up.
    Shendu: Speaking of which.
  • This Is Gonna Suck:
    • The Enforcers over being in San Francisco with what Bai Tza is planning for the area.
    • Despite Jade's insistence that they celebrate their win, Jackie says that Bai Tza will be back.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: As the Enforcers tell Bai Tza that San Francisco has a lot of nice places for her to establish her new kingdom, Ratso mentions the earthquakes to be a con. It's not a con to Bai Tza who decides to flood the entire city.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Both Jackie and Valmont, on two separate occasions, kick Bai Tza in the face. Tohru also tries to punch her, only for her to metamorphosize and create a hole in her chest which she use to trap his hand.
