This episode provides examples of:

  • Artistic License – History: Miss Hartman mentions a speech by President Carter. However the episode is set in 1976 and Carter's term didn't start until 1977.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Jade kicks Finn to release his grip on kid Jackie. Unfortunately, Jackie lands in a pool and struggles to stay afloat, causing Jade to realize in horror that he hasn't learned how to swim yet.
  • Out of Order: Evidence in the episode suggests it takes place, canonically, between episodes 5 and 6 in season one.
  • Retroactive Wish: When the Enforcers are eating in a donut shop, Ratso dismally wishes that one of the talismans would come to them for once. At that moment, the talisman tracker goes off and the Enforcers see Jade walking past, with the Rabbit talisman in her backpack. Before rushing after her, Ratso quickly wishes for a million bucks.
  • The '70s: Where Jade (and ultimately the Dark Hand Enforcers and adult Jackie) end up after time traveling. Finn in particular feels right in his element, to the point that he breaks into a disco routine at a school dance and protests when his cohorts start dragging him back to the time portal.
  • The Slow Path: Jackie knocks Tohru into the other Enforcers while in the time rift, sending the bad guys to "the old days" of the early 20th century. They arrive in Valmont's office in the present day balding, white-haired, and wrinkly.
  • Unexplained Recovery: How the Dark Hand Enforcers regained their youth for the next episode is left a mystery.
  • Would Hurt a Child:
    • The Dark Hand decide to take care of Jackie while he's a kid so he won't grow up into the thorn in their side standing in the way of their success.
    • Tohru holds kid Jackie hostage in exchange for Shendu's time travel orb. Jackie holds kid Valmont hostage. After a tense moment, Chow points out that Chan wouldn't hurt a kid, even if they were evil. Jackie relents and lets go of Valmont, only for Jade to grab Valmont by the shirt and declare she has no such scruples.
