Recap / Invader Zim S 1 E 21 FBI Warning Of Doom

Go To

Zim walks in on GIR watching his favorite movie, Intestines of War, for the hundredth time and is freaked out by the video's FBI warning at the beginning. After receiving some baseless information about the FBI from his computer and receiving a call from an irate clerk threatening to slap them with a late fee, Zim tries to bring the disk back to the video rental store at the mall. Unfortunately, by the time he gets there, the mall has closed and Zim is forced to deal with hypercompetent security guard Slab Rankle.

Tropes:

  • All Crimes Are Equal: Slab throws anyone who does anything even remotely offensive at the mall into jail, from shoplifting to loitering to singing too loudly.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: Slab Rankle.
  • Doomy Dooms of Doom: The title and the FBI warning itself.
  • Epic Fail: Slab sends a hoard of zombies after Zim, but they all turn out to be the mindless, shambling kind who just trip over one another. Zim even uses one as a step stool to get to the video store's drop box.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: When the titular warning appears on screen, it reads as follows:
"Federal law provides severe civil and criminal penalties for the unauthorized reproduction, distribution, exhibition of copyrighted motion pictures in any medium (Title 17; United States Code, Section 501 and 506). The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigates allegations of criminal copyright infringements. They will hunt you down like the dirty monkey you are and force you to wear a moose skin and ride a greased pig while singing folk tunes. They are forcing me to ride the piggy as I write this. The piggy is smelly!!"
  • Harmless Villain: Slab Rankle's zombie army, all of whom just moan and hobble around, never even trying to target Zim.
  • Post Tantrum Sleep: After Zim turns off his movie, GIR runs around crying and screaming right before he plops onto the floor and starts snoozing.
  • Rousing Speech: Zim motivates the fellow prisoners at the mall to work together and believe in themselves in order to escape...only to abandon them as soon as he gets out.
Zim: There is hope! With the proper guidance, anything is possible and I'm telling you right now, you can get out of this cell if you only believed that you can, then you can! Trust me! Rise my fellow prisoners! Rise up and use your revolting limbs to escape this prison!
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Slab takes his mall security guard job a little too seriously. He calls himself more dangerous than the FBI and, after capturing Zim, pretends to be congratulated by the president.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: The computer's "educated guess" about what the FBI is: "Founded in 1492 by, uh... demons, the FBI is a crack law enforcement agency designed to... oh, I dunno... fight... aliens?"
