Recap / Infinity Train: Voyage of Wisteria: The Tappers Car

Go To

Chloe confronts her brother, and the hunt for Goh ends unexpectedly.

Tropes in this chapter include:

  • Call-Back: Chloe says a final farewell to Vermillion City, just like she gave one before she entered the Train.
  • Coincidental Broadcast: Just after Amelia brings up how no one's seen hide nor hair of Goh, a broadcast for a humongous celebration in the Canals of Fondue Car is on television...and showcasing Goh working at the Malasada Shop.
  • Fond Memories That Could Have Been:
    • Parker’s prospective future visions of how their reunion could’ve gone, both in his imagination and as a side-effect of his powers.
    • Along similar lines, Chloe describes to him the sort of life she envisioned them having after her return; one where they were an average, normal family without any baggage or serious drama to deal with, and she was treated like an ordinary girl who was willing to reach out and try again.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: It turns out Goh is this...the reason he's avoided anyone's attention is because he's deliberately keeping a low profile, covering up his clothes and hair with a uniform, and avoiding being seen by cameras for too long.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: The gist of Chloe's old fantasies about what she wanted for her future.
  • Irony: Despite Parker being the one with psychic powers, Chloe repeatedly anticipates what sort of arguments he's going to make in his own defense and cuts him off before he gets a chance to say anything.
  • Mythology Gag: In the April Fool's episode, Tapper's Bar was where Goh ended up working at once he finally boarded the train. Here, it's where the Red Lotus Quarto learns of his current location...working at another restaurant.
    • A man named Carl that is implied to have set 'Twitchy' off has hairdo that resembles a Kabuto and a pet Flareon...
  • Noodle Incident: Gladion fought Specter in a car involving rabbit fanatics, a dark forest and a purple sky that he really doesn't want to remember. This is presumably the incident in the 400 Rabbits Car as revealed in Knight of the Orange Lily.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Chloe gives a harsh dressing-down to her little brother for his role in utterly ruining her hopes for coming home. Combined with a 'The Reason I Suck' Speech, as she acknowledges how the girl who wanted to keep calling out and shaming everyone who hurt her in the past never would have made it off the Train, and that she played a role in shaping his worldview. That said, Chloe states that she still loves her brother and wishes the best for him to get better.
  • Shout-Out: Upon seeing their statues, Amelia states hers makes her look like a man, like how Mai described herself in Sokka's victory portrait. Hazel even shouts that the statues "look perfect" like Toph did.
  • Something Only They Would Say: What cinches the anonymous worker as Goh in Lexi's eyes is the fact that he can't look at a statue celebrating Chloe's accomplishments for too long.
  • Stop Worshipping Me: Lexi has a somewhat uncomfortable reaction to the sight of the Fondue Car's adoration for him and Chloe, albeit it's more because of the romantic inclinations that he can't share with her.
  • Stopping the Blame Game: Mr. Bradbury and Miss April acknowledge how they might have been able to do more to help Goh, only for Chloe and her father to shut them down, stating that the best thing they can do is learn from their mistakes and move on.
  • Tranquil Fury: Chloe is utterly calm throughout her speech to Parker which terrifies the boy.
