As night falls, the ritual components interact in ways that are all according to plan....somewhat.
Tropes found in this chapter include:
- 13 Is Unlucky: The carousel does 13 laps before Hop breaks.
- Always Save the Girl: Discussed; Amelia and Lexi both show concern over Chloe's well-being and are willing to do anything they can to ensure she doesn't become part of the Cage of Flauros. This includes Amelia discussing the possibility of killing Hop to deprive them on a crucial 'part'.
- Ambiguous Syntax: Paul/Despair answers Simon's question about what happened to Sean in that he doesn't know: which means either he honestly doesn't know what happened after Electivire knocked Sean into the water or that he doesn't know the concept of "if you die on the Train, your body is left where the Train picked you up and you're reincarnated into a denizen".
- The Cameo: Scenes with Leon, Sonia, Professor Sycamore and Mairin and Reggie appear as they worry over their loved ones.
- Chekhov's Gun: Alex's combat knife. While he first uses it to threaten Chloe that he'll hurt her if something happens to Hop, he uses it on himself to transform into the Bogeyman.
- Cliffhanger: The chapter ends as Chloe sees Hop in his delirious form, prepared to fight him.
- Continuity Nod: Chloe reciting lyrics to a Creature Feature song ("Buried Alive") like she did in Part 3 of The Plush Penguin Car.
- Atticus being annoyed about the door that leads to Hop's hotel room. Back in the Corgi Car he was stuck with the 'Impossible puzzle door' before Tulip noted that how to open it was how all doors work.
- Electric Torture: Simon uses the electrical properties of his shoes to torture Paul this way.
- Haunted House: Chloe and Hop venture through the Borley Haunted Mansion, which somehow is replicating events in Chloe's life in order to spook her.
- I Can't Dance: Neither Ash nor Trip are good at dancing and are shown fumbling around in their waltz.
- Informed Attribute: Discussed. Chloe questions why Alex is Desire since he doesn't shapeshift into what people desire most nor is he filled with lust. Alex brings up that desire isn't just about adult things, but just wanting something even though you can't have it...like Alex wanting Hop to be his brother.
- Internal Reveal: Mairin finally learns what happened to Alain. She doesn't take it well.
- No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Simon unleashes this on Paul/Despair kicking the trainer while demanding answers.
- The Reveal:
- The Cage of Flauros will essentially transform all its ritual components into predators to chase down the Apex. And once every single member of Apex is gone — whether via changing their ways or death — then every single component will die. No exceptions.
- On a more minor note Sonia was not on the Infinity Train.
- Ring of Fire: When Hop loses it, a ring of fire forms around the carousel similar to what happened in Silent Hill: Revelation.
- Tempting Fate: Reggie all but begs for his brother to be all right. The next scene has Simon electrocuting Paul.
- Took a Level in Badass: Wooloo levels up and evolves in to Dubwool.
- Wham Episode: We learn just what happens to those who enact the Cage of Flauros, Simon snaps at Paul, Hop snaps when Chloe pushes his biggest Berserk Button and Alex unleashes his monstrous form.
