Recap / Infinity Train: Blossoming Trail: Emergency Exit

Go To

Chloe’s return from the train isn't quite what she or anyone else was expecting.

Tropes in this chapter include:

  • Accidental Truth: When Chloe brings up Lucifer — amongst the small reference of demons most people actually know — the classmates bring up that the "Chloe + Lucifer" insult was actually correct: there's a show where Lucifer falls in love with a woman named Chloe.
  • And This Is for...: Chloe's line before having Cheshire strike Ms. Turner.
Chloe: This is for my friend!
  • Back for the Finale: Not counting Sara, who's absent for obvious reasons, almost every classmate of Chloe's returns this chapter and at least tries to bury the hatchet with her.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Chloe arrives just in time to derail Turner's plan thanks to Parker and Molly's text message and One-One dropping her off at her school.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Much like the last chapter, this part ties up several of the Pokémon World's plotlines this way:
    • Bitter:
      • Vermillion City's school hits The Last Straw and is shut down after the Turner incident. Thanks to this, several people lose their jobs, and many students are left with no school to attend.
      • Goh's ultimate goal is achieved, but it's All for Nothing: not only has he been left utterly traumatized by the entire ordeal, but he can't even use Mew as their original form, instead taking the form of a Shiny Espurr. And of course, Goh is still Trainbound...
      • Class 5-E are put through the wringer yet again: not only are their futures heavily overshadowed by their past, the girl they bullied and belittled wound up becoming the only reason they're still alive — something the Internet is bound to find golden.
    • Sweet:
      • Mrs. Turner is arrested, ensuring she won't be able to hurt anyone ever again.
      • Chloe finally buries the hatchet with her family, Akemi, Class 5-E, and Yeardley, Stopping the Blame Game once and for all.
      • Chloe reconciles with her family and friends, and though she's all but aware that Goh is gonna be taken to the Train, she decides to do one last thing before he leaves.
      • Speaking of Goh, he finally gets the apology from Trip he desperately needed, and returns to his worried parents, who assure him he'll get all the help he can get before the Train grabs him.
      • The three trainers get thrown a bone in the Self-portrait Car when they have some much-needed pep talks from the images of their friends.
  • Brick Joke: Again the "Chloe + Lucifer" reference, only this time the classmates admit that they were somewhat correct in that regard.
  • Call-Back:
    • Ash recognizes the meaning of the orange lilies sent by Chloe's detractors thanks to Lillie using them in the past.
    • The trainers enter the Self-Portrait Car Trip did years ago, and encounter his portrait of Ash.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: After the school finally shuts down, Bradbury and April get drunk together as they discuss their future.
  • Irony: Class 5-E's asses got saved by the same girl they had fun bullying, something they have no choice but to acknowledge. And to twist the irony further, Chloe wouldn't have found out had it not been for her little brother whom they had fun gloating about said bullying to.
  • Passive-Aggressive Kombat: The orange lily bouquets that Chloe's anti-fans drop off at her hospital, which Ash has the class get rid of before Chloe can see them. Apparently, Yeardley's father tried to ruin his son's apology by tricking him into delivering them as an apology gift in one last bit of spite.
  • Post-Victory Collapse: After Chloe stops Mrs. Turner with a pipe to the head, she collapses, due to losing so much blood from a bullet wound to the shoulder. Moreover, this is also coming in just after Chloe died and went through fighting off Walter.
  • Rejected Apology: Very, very Downplayed, but between all the hurt Yeardley caused Chloe and his less-than-stellar track record of apologies, Chloe can't completely trust that he's sincere or give him the same chance she gives the rest of the class. However, they still bury the hatchet with Chloe giving him something to work on in the meantime and wishing him a better life without his father.
  • Shout-Out: Goh's nightmare vision of the 'Wumpa Region' references Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time and its infamous completion requirements, highlighting how his desire to be a collector of every Pokémon in the world has evaporated now that he technically has Mew.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Even before she knows who's at her door, Samantha can tell it's going to be bad news.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Several in succession:
    • Grace is allowed to stick around the Cat's chalet for the time being in exchange for stories about Simon's better moments.
    • Sean's reincarnated form comes to Margaret as a replacement son, giving them both the comfort they badly need.
    • 5-E and Yeardley manage to bury the hatchet as best they can with Chloe.
    • Goh gets an apology from Trip and comfort and reassurance from his parents and Pokémon.
