Lionel throws his own party when he isn't invited to Mona's. Petra helps a nonverbal child get the toy truck he desperately wants.
Tropes:
- Baby's First Words: Sal says his first word at the end of the episode, and it's "Oh, fuck." Presumably he picked it up from Petra.
- But Liquor Is Quicker: Lionel is so shameless when he's drunk, he has a threeway with Connie and Maury.
- Call-Back: We actually see Mona's very sick grandmother, who was mentioned in the Big Mouth episode "The Hugest Period Ever."
- Cant Hold Their Liquor: Tequila quickly gets to Lionel because he only weighs 38 kg (84 pounds).
- Food Slap: Maury buys extra lunches just so he can slap them in Lionel's face.
- Forgot I Could Fly: Tito bails on Lionel's party because she doesn't like driving at night. This confuses Montel, because Tito has wings.
- Moment Killer: Alice dampens the elation of Sal's mothers cheering his achievement in non-verbally communicating his wants to them by describing how putting unrealistic expectations on him that don't respect the limits of his disability may lead to him growing up to resent them. This naturally completely kills the mood and also quashes any potential romantic feelings from Sal's uncle.
- Portmanteau: Connie calls the party at Lionel's church a "charty."
- Primal Scene: Being a Hormone Monster, Montel isn't thrown by seeing their parents fuck. Catching them fucking Montel's mentor, on the other hand, horrifies them.Montel: I gotta go scoop out my eyeballs!
- Psychological Projection: Alice has a strained relationship with her mother, who ignores the limitations of her disability and sends her what she believes are inspiring posters to overcome it with positivity. When Sal's mothers cheer him for communicating with them, Alice under Hate Worm Rochelle's influence is reminded of her own mother's behavior and essentially discourages their encouragement for fear of going the same route.
- Serious Business: Petra's newest mission is to... get a four-year-old the toy truck he wants. Nevertheless, she dedicates herself to it as fiercely as her adult clients' goals.
- Shoddy Shindig: Lionel's party is so pathetic, not only do the other loser monsters bail, he attracts Schmitty from Pity, who offers to help him drown his sorrows with tequila.
- Start My Own: The "loser" monsters (Lionel, Kitty, Cat, Tito, and Montel) start their own party when they aren't invited to Mona's. Ironically, the monsters end up crashing his party when Mona's place goes up in flames.
- Unseen No More: Schmitty from Pity was mentioned by Keith from Grief in the penultimate episode of the first season. He makes his first (and so far only) appearance in this episode.
- Waxing Lyrical: Subverted — when Mona's house catches on fire, Connie chants, "The roof! The roof! The roof is ablaze!" rather than the obvious lyric.
