Kaz enters the girls’ cats, Jang Keng and Tekirai, into a racing contest, much to Ami and Yumi's disapproval.

Tropes:

  • The Big Race: During the big final race, Jang Keng is unable to continue because of a hairball, causing Takirai to step in and win the race for her.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: As made clear by its name, the cat race is supposed to be like a NASCAR race complete with racing noises and crashes.
  • Fictional Sport: It’s revealed that Kaz was being so nice to Jang Keng and Takirai because he was training them to be entered in the “Cat-tona 500” (presented by “NASCAT”).
  • Overly-Nervous Flop Sweat: Kaz when he’s trying to convince the girls that he’s forcing their cats to race for their own good.
  • Rousing Speech: Acting as Jang Keng’s racing coach, Kaz gives a nonsensical one to the cat before the final race.

Driving School

Ami thinks Yumi and Kaz are dangerous drivers, so she makes them take a driving class.

Tropes:

  • Abbey Road Crossing: This famous picture of the Beatles is referenced as one of the pedestrian standees that Yumi recklessly plows through during the driving test.
  • Bowled Over: One of the courses in the driving test is across a frozen lake on which a group of penguins is knocked over by Yumi and Kaz like bowling pins, complete with sound effects.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The deer that Ami has to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting in the beginning of the episode appears again on the last stretch of the race, causing Yumi and Kaz to swerve and crash before crossing the finish line.
  • Confusing Multiple Negatives: Yumi confuses herself while she and Kaz are arguing about who’s the better driver in “Backwards Land.”
  • Driving Test: In order to put a stop to Yumi and Kaz’s argument about who’s a better driver, Ami enrolls all three of them in driving school. Despite being labeled by Yumi and Kaz as the worst driver out of the three of them, Ami is the only one to actually pass the driving test.
  • Slow and Steady Wins the Race: Ami drives the course slowly and safely and is the only one to cross the finish line in the end.
Yumi: Ugh. It’s like that lame story of the tortoise and the hare.
Kaz: Slow and steady wins the race. Hmph!
  • Steven Ulysses Perhero: The driving instructor’s name is Mr. Mc Prudent.

The girls compete with each other to break a world record.

Tropes:

  • Cock-a-Doodle Dawn: The episode starts off with this as the band drives through the countryside in the early hours of the morning.
  • Escalating Prank War: While not a prank war per say, the girls do begin to sabotage each other’s auditions in increasingly extreme ways.
  • Feud Episode: Both of the girls want to be the one to break a world record by themselves, allowing the competition to get between the two of them.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Pausing on Ami and Yumi’s bucket lists shows the girls differences and similarities:
    • Yumi’s includes getting struck by lightning and stage diving off a cliff.
    • Ami’s includes hugging every animal and riding a rainbow.
    • However, both of the girls have starting a band with each other on their list.
  • Scary Stinging Swarm: While trying to break the record for the world’s biggest beard of live bees, the bees catch sight of Kaz’s giant cotton candy and begin to chase him around for it.
  • Space Whale Aesop: Kaz tries to convince the girls that the aesop they should’ve learned is that they can do anything as a team. The girls instead interpret their success as they can accomplish anything as long as they sabotage each other.
  • This Means War!: Ami and Yumi declare this in unison when both of their auditions for the book of world records are ruined. Although why they’re declaring war on each other when it was Kaz who unintentionally sabotaged their performances is unclear.
