Alyx proceeds through a warehouse, then through several buildings that had been under construction before the zombies arrived. She fights Combine soldiers and zombies, and sometimes watches Combine soldiers fight zombies. She encounters a new enemy called the Suppressor, who carries a machinegun and lays down long bursts of continuous fire. She finds a room filled with explosive barrels and tripmines, forcing her to disarm them carefully to proceed. Outside, she sees one of the sets of power cables drop from the Vault as the Vortigaunts successfully liberate a substation. Russell gets his drone working, just in time for the Combine soldiers to destroy it again. Alyx's path leads her through the vodka distillery, but the doors are sealed; she climbs up on the water tower and is able to jump across into an upper-level window.
This Chapter contains examples of:
- Door to Before: Several times, Alyx has to travel around to access the far sides of doors that are locked or have something jamming them.
- Explosive Barrels: A room full of them, with tripmines that will go off if their beams are broken. Getting through the room successfully gets an achievement.
- Insurmountable Waist-High Fence: Alyx can climb down onto the pipes, but can't climb back up, making her go find a Door to Before to get back.
- Jump Scare: Russell's drone briefly returns this way.
