Tropes appearing in this episode:

  • Arc Villain: Chaos Puss in Boots (a.k.a the Phantom Thief Cat/Josephine). The one pulling strings though is the Mouse, a servant of Puss in Boots.
  • Bad Cop/Incompetent Cop: The Paris Police Prefecture. Led by Justin Ganimard, the police force is tasked by Marie Antoinette to capture the Phantom Thief Cat. Instead, they somehow think the party is involved with the thief, not realizing she herself is among the police force disguised as an officer. Their failure to capture her results in the queen simply firing Gunimard and replacing him with Gilles de Rais.
  • Down the Drain: The final encounter with the Phantom Thief Cat and the Mouse takes place in the sewers underneath the Palace of Versalles. It is also infested with rat Villains.
  • Papa Wolf: After returning from his faraway journey, Puss in Boots gets outraged at the Mouse for putting his hands on Josephine, making her cause trouble in Paris, and possessing her body. After the party defeats the Mouse, Puss in Boots personally finishes him off.
  • Skewed Priorities: While the party is fending off the multitude of rat Villains, Cuvelier goes on her own to ask the citizens if they have seen the Phantom Thief Cat. She also takes her sweet time to buy and eat food (Cuvelier thinks not doing so is somehow rude), to which Revol briefly reacts with exasperation.
