The alligators in the sewer.

But for the pit confounders, let them go, and find as little mercy as they show!

As a deadly crime spree begins to surface, a century-old urban legend takes shape in Portland's sewers and becomes Nick's latest case.

In Europe, Adalind meets Prince Viktor, who comes to bring those responsible for his cousin Eric's demise to justice. Meanwhile, Captain Renard responds to the recent attempt on his life.

This episode provides examples of:

  • An Arm and a Leg: The Victim of the Week ismissing an arm after being thrown around hard enough to wrench it off while breaking his neck. The second victim, a sewer worker, is missing a leg after getting too close to Gregorek's hideout.
  • Bound and Gagged: Hank, when he's taken hostage in the sewer, to keep him from warning Nick that Gregorek has two partners.
  • Call-Back:
  • *Click* Hello: How Sebastien is greeted when checking in on Renard and Meisner, given what happened in their last safehouse.
  • Crazy-Prepared: The Grimm diaries' entry on Gelumcaedus includes a weapon called a vambrace that blocks the Wesen's bite strength and shoots out a knife as well.
Nick: I think I have one of those in the trailer...
    Hank: Of course you do.
Nick: I just never knew what it was for.
  • Foreshadowing: When Nick and Hank find the stashed loot, Nick says he can hear Gregorek in three different places. Hank attributes it to the echo, but as it turns out, Gregorek has two brothers working with him.
  • I Have Your Partner: Turns out Gregorek isn't working alone, and when he's arrested Hank is abducted to force Nick to release him.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Gregorek kills two people to cover his crimes. By the end of the episode, his two brothers are dead.
  • La RĂ©sistance: Renard and Meisner meet some Resistance leaders. The one who gave away their safe house is being tortured and is shot.
  • Pride Before a Fall: On the way to the hostage exchange, Gregorek sneers that Grimms aren't as scary as he thought. One fight resulting in two dead brothers later, he appears to reconsider.
  • Sewer Gator: Gelumcaedus is presumably the truth behind the myth, being alligator-like Wesen who live in the sewers.
Wu: If you ask me, it's an alligator. I know it sounds crazy, but when I was a kid my uncle who lived in New York told me that alligators lived in the sewers. I was so scared I peed in the bathtub the whole time I was there. [Beat] Oh, like you wouldn't do the same.
  • Shout-Out: Nick and Hank find Gregorek's stash by following a ticking clock.
  • Sinister Surveillance: Prince Viktor has hidden cameras placed in Adalind's hotel suite, and sees her rubbing the gore made from Frau Pech's remains into her belly.
  • Working the Same Case: Nick and Hank aren't sure the two murders are linked, aside from the violent method, until the first victim's gym card is found at the second murder scene.
