The lady herself.

It shall not be death, but a sleep of a hundred years, into which the princess shall fall.

As Nick delves deeper into his life as a Grimm, a trail of grotesque murders reignites the search for the elusive gold coins. The arrival of a mysterious woman in black begins to get in the way of Nick and Hank’s investigation as extra precautions have to be taken to ensure their safety.

Meanwhile, Nick’s ability to keep his true nature secret from Juliette comes to a tipping point as Adalind makes a move.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Badass in Distress: Kimura searches Renard's apartment for the coins. When he doesn't find them, he lies in wait to ambush Renard when he comes home. The Chief is tied to a chair and subjected to a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown that only ends when Wu and another cop come by to check on Renard, forcing Kimura to leave.
  • Call-Back:
  • The Dragon: The police think that the woman in black is this to Akira Kimura. They're wrong: it's Kelly Burkhardt, Nick's mom, who has been trying to kill Kimura to avenge the deaths of Nick's father and the friend whose body was misidentified as hers.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Monroe is shocked when Nick turns up on his doorstep late at night with Juliette in tow, asking Monroe to show her his Game Face. It's only when Nick explains that Adalind's cat has scratched Juliette, and Nick is trying to explain to her why this might be a problem, that Monroe agrees.
  • The Reveal: When Nick and the woman in black finally meet, Nick realises that she is his mother.
    Woman: Nick. Nicky… it’s me.
    Nick: …Mom?
  • Revenge by Proxy: Adalind gets a cat, infects it with a spell and takes it to see Juliette. It scratches her, eventually putting her in a coma. Presumably this is revenge against Nick for taking her powers: he killed something she loved, now she's killing someone he loves.
  • Rewatch Bonus: The Woman in Black finds Kimura's motel room, and the surveillance photos he has of Nick, Hank Renard and Monroe. She picks up a particularly clear photo of Nick alone and takes it with her. This naturally looks a lot less sinister when it's revealed she's his mother.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: The former cop who took surveillance photos of Nick, Hank, Renard and Monroe is killed by Kimura after he's told him what he knows.
  • You Have to Believe Me!: When Juliette is bitten by Adalind's cat, she has no idea why Nick thinks that merits a hospital visit. Nick is forced to tell her all about Grimms and Wesen, taking her to the trailer to show her, but naturally she just thinks he sounds crazy.
