Go To

The third story of Gravity Falls Rule 63.

After the kids find Silvia's old collection of wax statues, Silvia decides to exhibit them again, and Marcus makes a wax figure of her for the event. But when it is found beheaded, he and Dana set out to find the culprit.

Tropes present in this episode:

  • Ax-Crazy: The wax statues.
  • Big Bad: Wax Sherlock Holmes.
  • The Cake Is a Lie: Silvia accidentally attracts visitors to the re-opening of her wax museum thanks to Salls and an expired coupon. Silvia then explains she didn't know about the free pizza and she was willing to get some right now. Cue the angry mob.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The sun, if you think about it. It melted Wax Abraham Lincoln at the start of the episode and Wax Sherlock Holmes near the end.
  • Continuity Nod: Dana's sleepwear includes a 30 Seconds to Math t-shirt. Her interest in the band was mentioned in "The Legend of the Gobblewonker".
  • Detectives Follow Footprints: This is how Dana and Marcus locate the axe.
  • Foreshadowing: When Dana and Marcus were watching Psych, the case was thought to be an accident. This foreshadows the plot: the murder weapon was an axe and it really was an accident; the wax figures were gunning for the real Silvia.
    • Also, the first question that Marcus takes at the event is from Old Woman McGucket, who asks if the wax figures are alive. She was Properly Paranoid.
  • The Killer Was Left-Handed: It turns out the axe Dana and Marcus found is a left-handed one. Manly Dan couldn't have used it because he's right-handed.
  • Police Are Useless: Chief Blubs and Officer Durland, who immediately deem the case unsolvable.
  • Properly Paranoid: Old Woman MacGucket was right to worry about the wax figures.
  • Red Herring: Both Manly Dan and Toby Determined had very convincing evidence stacked up against them, but were not, in fact, the killers.
  • Stealth Pun: The statues only come to life when the moon waxes.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Dana and Marcus, and how!
