Tropes

  • Agony of the Feet: Cassius ends up having the front half of his right foot gone after recovering Yek from Versatile. He considers it a sacrifice for his goal after being pointed out about the damage.
  • Cover Innocent Eyes and Ears: Eustace requests the Captain to divert Lyria's attention from Alandus's corpse as the crew sees it without a cranium.
  • Depower: While Yek is still usable as a weapon, its fusion with Versatile causes it to lose much of its key functionality, causing Cassius to write off his mission as a failure.
  • Enemy Mine: At first, the crew and Cassius call a truce due to having a mutual enemy in the form of Alandus. As the fight goes on, it turns from a temporary alliance to a more permanent one.
  • Ironic Echo: When Cassius meets with the crew for the first time, he asks them about why did they rescue him, which they respond that it's an act of kindness. The roles are switched in the ending after Cassius helps the crew defeating Versatile.
  • Translator Microbes: Cassius carries a multilingual converter that allows him to convert moondweller language to skydweller language. This is really just to satisfy Cassius's interest in the new language, much to his superiors' confusion.
